NYS DMV Learner's Permit Testing
Students are able to take their NYS Learner’s Permit test online here at Royalton-Hartland High School. Royalton-Hartland High School is NYS DMV-certified to offer on-site testing, free of charge.
Students who are within two months of their 16th birthday and currently enrolled and in good standing at Royalton-Hartland High School are eligible. Note: ONLY Roy-Hart High School students are able to take this test. Students must be 16 years old in order to drive with the Learner's Permit.
Manuals are available in the Library Media Center at no cost.
Testing: Students must contact Ms. Cousins at kcousins@royhart.org to schedule testing.
Testing is available Monday-Friday, during regular school hours (7:30 am-2:30 pm) in the Royalton-Hartland High School Library Media Center.
Students may schedule an appointment during their study hall or lunch period. The test takes less than one period to complete.
On the day of testing, students must bring their Chromebooks and one of the following forms of ID:
RHCSD Student ID with photo or NYS DMV non-driver photo ID.
The test is offered in English and Spanish and the results are immediate. Students who do not pass can retake the test as many times as necessary.
After Passing the Online Exam: Students will be given all of the paperwork needed to take to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles in order to apply for a Learner's Permit.

Information for Parents...
Here's how it works:- Students email Ms. Cousins to schedule
- They come to the library media center with their charged chromebook to take the test (because their information and attendance here at Roy-Hart High School can be confirmed, no additional information is required <-- a nice perk!)
- Once here, and information confirmed, the student is emailed the link to their test
- Students are prompted to confirm information a final time and then complete the test
IF the student passes, then a confirmation receipt is printed (the DMV is also automatically notified through their system) and given to the student, with the packet of papers the DMV would give you (another perk! All the paperwork you would wait in line to get from the DMV is provided).
Here's where you, the parent, come in:- It is recommended that parents call the DMV to find out whether an appointment is required.
- At the DMV, they will:
- check your student's vision
- take their picture
- take your money
- file your paperwork
- send your student off with a temporary permit (the official one will be sent to you in the mail) THEN your student can begin their driving!

5 Hour Pre-Licencing Course
The NYS 5 Hour Pre-Licensing Course is being offered online through AAA (here is a list of many on the DMV site), at GCC, and SUNY Niagara.
