A fun tradition for students and staff at Royal Intermediate School is the annual activity to sort all 4th grade students into “houses.” Students are sorted into one of five houses, and they stay in their house for the entire time they are at RIS. Our five houses include Ansvar, Bidii, Coraggio, Integrita and Sumus.
House sorting at RIS combines the well-known scenes from the world of “Harry Potter” with the acclaimed Ron Clark Academy methodology that seeks to “foster an atmosphere where students, parents, staff, and community members work together to create a family environment.”
Houses are a very important part of the Positive Behavior System at our school. Students can receive house points for following expectations and exhibiting KNIGHTS PRIDE. They participate in competitions at assemblies to earn points, and can be elected to represent their house each year. At the end of every month, the house with the most points earns the privilege of participating in a special activity with Mrs. Achondo & Mrs. Miller. At the end of each quarter, the house with the most points is rewarded with a special field trip. Check out this start of the school year video from RIS as we welcome our new fourth graders to the school and sort them into their new houses.
