Writing a book report can get repetitive for students. What if there was a different way for students to showcase their understanding of the book they read. Here is a video that explains one teachers way to make book reports different and more fun for her students. It gives you a chance to read a new book and then tell your teacher and friends what you thought about it by creating a storyboard utilizing technology and then creating a book trailer that will encourage other students to read that book.

Student Work Highlight: Concert Evaluation https://rioschools.org/riovista/student-work-highlight-concert-evaluation/ https://rioschools.org/riovista/student-work-highlight-concert-evaluation/#respond Fri, 09 Jan 2015 04:06:19 +0000 http://simplistic-hope.flywheelsites.com/riovista/?p=901 Concert Evaluation by a Rio Vista 7th grader

Overall, I think I deserved a B+ because all the songs I did were satisfying but not perfect and I had some mistakes and confusions.  I did well in all the songs but “Echo Lake” because at the measures when I was playing with the violin 1st, I got confused so that lowered my personal score to a B+. Although, I think my best song was either “Carol the Bells” or “Swallowtail Jig”, because I was in tune and didn’t mess up in those songs. Also, I worked really hard in Carol the Bells and the audience was happy and gave one of the loudest applauses.

As a whole, I think the string orchestra deserved an A because we satisfied the audience. The reason we did not get an A+ was because in some measures we were not in unison and and the violin 1st did not start off on the right beat at the beginning of “Echo Lake”.  Overall, the rest of the songs were great and the audience loved it. During “Sleeping Beauty”, the violas were great background music and the ending was successful even after receiving the song after late.

The band did great. Although there were some little mistakes needed to fix like the clarinets non controllable high note outbursts.  The percussionists did great and probably even upstaged the band!  My favorite instrument in the band was the flute and it stood out through all the stronger instruments like the trumpet and trombone.  My grandmother liked them better out of all the groups and I was fairly impressed with their in tune melody and also when they were in unison.

My favorite musical piece out of all the other songs were Carol the Bells.  Carol the Bells was my favorite because I really love the melody it has and that was the song I played best.  Me and my group worked really hard rewriting the song and getting the dynamics right, and we have been working on it for about a month.  The audience probably marked our song as one of the best out of the others because we put much work into it.

The entire evening was very nerve racking for all the performers, especially the soloists.  Although it was also very exciting and fun being able to perform and the audience enjoyed and even love the amazing show we have performed for them.  One of the funniest and worst parts about that evening was that the lights that were shining at us and we  were really hot and everyone on stage was laughing because it was super hot on the stage.  I learned the I have to not fear about being on stage then I will have a less of a chance of messing up. The only thing that will really help me perform better is more practice and more confidence in myself and support from my friends and family.
