This week brings Red Ribbon Week activities, the Diwali Luncheon, our Multicultural Assembly, and Halloween on Friday. It is a busy and exciting time as we celebrate learning, culture, and community while also planning ahead for important calendar updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are grateful for the continued partnership of our PTSA and the Maggie L. Walker Governor\u2019s School Foundation. Their support provides both essential funding and the people power needed to sustain events such as Homecoming, legislative advocacy, community service opportunities, and more. We are about 100 memberships away from being recognized as national PTSA champions. If you have not yet joined, please consider doing so. Every membership strengthens our ability to serve our students and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please take note of these key updates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Red Ribbon Week and Drug-Free America Week<\/strong> activities will take place throughout the week.<br>\u2022 <strong>Multicultural Assembly<\/strong> on Wednesday, October 29 during lunch.<br>\u2022 <strong>Diwali Luncheon<\/strong> on Wednesday, October 29 in the Commons.<br>\u2022 <strong>Red Cross Blood Drive<\/strong> on Friday, October 31 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Rooms 104 and 105.<br>\u2022 <strong>Halloween<\/strong> on Friday, October 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead, <strong>Monday, November 3<\/strong> will be a student holiday for virtual parent-teacher conferences. Technology will send additional details soon, including the <strong>SignUpGenius links and Zoom meeting information<\/strong> for each teacher. <strong>Tuesday, November 4<\/strong> is the Election Day holiday for students and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note a <strong>calendar change for Thanksgiving week<\/strong>:<br>\u2022 <strong>Monday, November 24<\/strong> will be a <strong>synchronous virtual instruction day<\/strong> following a modified bell schedule.<br>\u2022 <strong>Tuesday, November 25<\/strong> will be an <strong>asynchronous learning day<\/strong> with independent assignments.<br>These days are designed to help us test our systems and ensure readiness for potential weather-related closures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, our seniors are in full swing with college applications, and we are proud of their hard work and focus during this exciting time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you for your continued engagement and support. This will give us enough time for our school selection committee to choose which students to nominate, and in turn solicit teacher recommendations for these nominees.<strong>Governor\u2019s Foreign Language Academies<\/strong>Academies:\u00a0 Full-Immersion Academies in French, Spanish, German; partial-immersion in Japanese Language; and Latin Academy.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Each academy allows one nominee from our school.\u00a0 Interested students should talk directly with their language teacher soon.\u00a0 Our foreign language department determines who is nominated from our school<strong>.\u00a0 If interested, please contact your language teacher.
