Good evening, Dragon Nation.
At the Regional School Board Meeting on March 20th, several significant items were approved.  The FY26 School Budget was approved.  This prioritizes attracting and retaining a top notch regional faculty, the one-to-one laptop initiative for all incoming freshman students, and HVAC improvements.  Next year\u2019s academic calendar has been approved and is posted at the top of the calendar page on the website.  All new classes and textbooks were approved.  We will be offering AP African American Studies and a Spanish Heritage speakers course for the first time.  Last, the student fee schedule for FY26 was approved.  This will be input over the summer to determine students\u2019 appropriate workbook, lab, and dual enrollment fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 3\/24\/25, Governor Youngkin plans to sign the \u2018bell to bell no cell\u2019 bill into law.  In compliance with this, after Spring Break we will be communicating a timetable and plan to enforce what is already in our Code of Conduct (p.27) for the remainder of the year.  Starting in August, students will still be able to have their cell phones but they must be powered off and in their backpacks (not pockets) from 8:40 PM-3:10 PM.  As this is a cultural change for our school we are planning a long runway, with plenty of input, grace, and communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

**Quarter 3 grades will be ready for review on March 25 on PowerSchool. This is a change from the original date of March 18 due to multiple school days lost in January and February due to snow and the water crisis.**<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community Service Fair at MLWGS, March 27th<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maggie Walker requires 140 hours of community service by the 3rd quarter of every student\u2019s senior year. Each year the school holds a community service fair to help bring organizations and students together. This year the date of the fair is March 27th, so that all students would have a chance to attend if interested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Freshmen class is being split into two groups, with the first group attending from 10:50-11:10 am and the second group attending from 11:10-11:30 am. During lunch (11:30-noon) the Fair will be open to all interested students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior Letter\/Senior Events 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year, MLWGS publishes a letter with information about senior-related events taking place for the remainder of the year.  As it is only March, we want to remind you that some details may change.  We hope that you will bookmark this letter and refer back to it as we near each activity and opportunity.  If you have any questions, please contact the individual(s) responsible for the event.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scholarship Opportunities for MLWGS seniors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seniors, if you are interested in applying for a MLWGS-exclusive scholarship (the Dr. Smriti Bardhan Scholarship, the Rajan Scholarship, the Priscilla Green Memorial Scholarship, or the $10,000 Robert E. and Jacquelyn Pogue Scholarship), you are encouraged to revisit Ms. Forquer\u2019s Schoology post in the \u201cCollege Information for the Class of 2025\u201d page about these opportunities.  The application deadline for the Bardhan, Rajan, and Pt. 1 of the Pogue is NOON on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.  The application for the Priscilla Green can be found here and is due by March 31: https:\/\/bit.ly\/PGMS2025<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
