The Class of 2018<\/em>: <\/strong>180 Graduates. As a class, they have performed a total of 32,719 community service hours<\/strong>. This is an average of approximately 180 hours per student. One student had 574 hours of community service. As a class, they earned a minimum of $13,519,227 million in scholarship offers<\/strong>. The average Grade Point Average was a 3.98.<\/strong> The average SAT score was 1419<\/strong> and ACT is 31<\/strong>. They are going to 75 different colleges, 107 are staying in-state, 69 are going out-of-state, and 8 students are planning to take a gap year. Of the 107 staying in-state, 83 are going to one of these four state schools: The University of Virginia, The College of William & Mary, Virginia Tech, and Virginia Commonwealth University. Eleven were National Merit Finalists<\/strong> and 49 more received Commendations in the National Merit Program. Four were offered National Merit Scholarships. Nine were Presidential Scholar candidates. <\/strong>One was a UVA Jefferson Scholar.<\/p>\n The Class of 2018 AP Awards<\/strong><\/em>: AP Scholars = 27, AP Scholars with Honor = 39, AP Scholars with Distinction = 76, National AP Scholars = 3.<\/p>\n Four MLWGS students attend 2017 Summer Governor\u2019s School Academies<\/em> spending weeks immersed in a language or program; Medicine, Latin, Japanese, and Spanish. <\/p>\n MW senior is chosen for a 2018 VMFA Fellowship Award f<\/em>or art. <\/p>\n MW freshman wins a 2018 Strong Men & Women in Virginia History Essay Contest<\/em> sponsored by the Library of Virginia and Dominion Energy.<\/p>\n (2) Math Art Seminar students have work chosen for display at the Bridges Mathematical Art Conference, Stockholm, Sweden<\/em>. <\/p>\n MW sophomore selected as a semifinalist in the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage essay awards.<\/p>\n We the People team<\/em> wins the Regional title in December 2017 and its 20th State title in January. The Walker team attended its 20th national competition<\/em> in Washington, DC in April where the team finished in 5th place.<\/p>\n MW Math Modeling<\/em> has (4) teams recognized as ‘finalist’ in the HiMCM Math Modeling Contest<\/em> putting them in the top 8% of 938 teams competing worldwide giving us the best results in five years.<\/p>\n MW wins<\/em> back-to-back SABR Analytics Competition<\/em>.<\/p>\n MW team is runner-up at the Governor’s Challenge in <\/em>Economics and Personal Finance<\/em>.<\/p>\n Ten Dragons participated in the 50th US National High School (K12) Chess Championship<\/em> in Columbus, OH. Five students who played in the U1200 section won 2nd place in the team standings. One student in the U1200 section won 2nd place in the individual standings.<\/p>\n The MW Debate<\/em> team for wins<\/em> the state debate championship<\/em> held by the Virginia Catholic Forensics League (VCFL).<\/p>\n Academic Quiz Bowl,<\/em> aka BoB Squad, wins State Title at VHSL State Championship, repeating title from 2017.<\/p>\n Walker Model Congress <\/em>hosts its annual conference with keynote speaker Congressman Donald McEachin, representing VA’s 4th District, February 16-17, 2018.<\/p>\n Model United Nations Club hosts Samantha Power, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, at GSMUN XXI,<\/em> March 23-24, 2018.<\/p>\n Mech Tech Dragons host STEM Day<\/em> for middle schoolers, 2-24-2018. <\/p>\n The Mech Tech Team 422 attended the World Championships<\/em> where they became a Safety Award Finalist<\/em>, also selected to an alliance for the first time and played in a playoff match for the first time. The team advanced to become a Carson Division finalist<\/em>.<\/p>\n Fall Drama<\/em>: \u2018An Ideal Husband<\/i>\u2019 performed November 9-11, 2017.<\/p>\n Spring Drama: ‘Spamalot’<\/em> performed March 1-3, 2018.<\/p>\n 2018 Scholastic Art Awards<\/em>: MLWGS has 80 total awards: 16 Gold Keys, 26 Silver Keys including 2 Portfolios, and 38 Honorable Mentions. One National<\/em> Medalist.<\/p>\n 2018 Scholastic Writing Awards:<\/em> MLWGS has 21 total awards: 5 Gold Keys, 6 Silver Keys, and 10 Honorable Mentions. One National <\/em>Medalist.<\/p>\n For the first time ever a Virginia student (MLWGS Senior) Earns 1st Chair Violin <\/em>in the All-National Honor Ensemble Symphony Orchestra<\/em>.<\/p>\n (2) Students, one violinist, and one violist qualify to participate in All-State Orchestra<\/em> based on their auditions.<\/p>\n MW Chamber Orchestra<\/em> earns ‘Superior’ rating at the District 1 Assessment Festival.<\/em> <\/p>\n MW wins the 2018 VHSL Wells Fargo Cup for the fifth<\/strong><\/em> consecutive year. <\/p>\n Weeks #1, #5, #8, #17 and #25 Lexus of Richmond, Pursuit of Perfect Leadership Award Weekly Winner<\/em>.<\/p>\n Dragon senior named to The 2018 All-Metro Softball Team<\/em>. This dragon also set a VHSL record for doubles.<\/p>\n Maggie Walker 2017 Cross Country…Boys and Girls 2A Regional Winners<\/em> for the fifth<\/em><\/strong> consecutive year with one individual regional champion. <\/p>\n 2017 Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams <\/em>are <\/em>VHSL State Champions <\/em>for the fifth<\/strong> c<\/em>onsecutive year with one individual State champion and five earning “All State” titles.<\/p>\n (4) Walker runners named to 2017 All-Metro Cross Country Team.<\/p>\n Walker Sophomore wins 2017 USATF Junior Olympic National Cross Country Championship<\/em>.<\/p>\n Maggie Walker 2A East Girls Indoor Track are 2A Conference, Regional and State Winners<\/em> for the fifth<\/em><\/strong> consecutive year. One student won the title in the 1-mile and 2-mile race at State.<\/p>\n Two MW students win titles at 2A East Diving Regionals and States:<\/em> 1st place and 2nd place for the fourth<\/strong> <\/em>consecutive year. <\/p>\n MLWGS Swim Teams at Regionals and States:<\/em> the Girls repeated their 1st place finish for the fourth<\/strong><\/em> consecutive year, while the Boys earned 2nd.<\/p>\n Wrestling<\/em> 2x<\/strong> Individual State Champion with 2018 title plus (4) All-State Wrestlers.<\/p>\n Boys Track<\/em> takes 1st place at spring VHSL championship. <\/p>\n MW runner<\/em> takes first place in both the one-mile and two-mile events at spring VHSL spring championship.<\/p>\n MW track<\/em> with top pole vaulter in the State. <\/p>\n Girls tennis<\/em> repeats the 2A State title win.
