The MLWGS robotics team had its most successful performance at FIRST championship in team history.<\/p>\n

Thursday, the team had a very rough day as the team went 0-5, losing the first three matches by a combined total of 13 points.   At the end of the day, they were ranked 71st<\/sup> in their division.<\/p>\n

Friday, the team went 4-1, but also had a couple of setbacks, as the intake mechanism was damaged in one of the matches, but was repaired by the pit crew in time for the next match, and in another match one of the critical belts broke, which didn’t allow the intake to work properly.   It was also repaired quickly by the pit crew.    The team’s ranking improved to 55th<\/sup> in the Division.<\/p>\n

Saturday started with alliance selection at 7 am, with the top 8 teams selecting 3 robots to compete with in eliminations. The team was the second pick by the 6th-seeded alliance. This is the first time the team was a second pick on Saturday of the Championships and only the second time the team has been selected to play during eliminations at the FIRST Championship. The alliance played hard during eliminations defeating the 3rd<\/sup>-seeded alliance, 212-139.   In the next round, the alliance was defeated by the second-seeded alliance and moved to the bottom bracket of the double-elimination tournament. They defeated the 5th<\/sup>-seeded alliance in the next round, the 4th<\/sup>-seeded alliance in the next round, and then had to face the 2nd<\/sup>-seeded alliance again, but this time the 6th<\/sup> Alliance was victorious and moved on to the Johnson Division finals.<\/p>\n

They had to face the top seeded alliance in a best of 3 final.  The 6th<\/sup>-seeded alliance surprised the top seed in a 212-208 win in the first match, but just fell short in the second match. The alliance had some unfortunate things occur in the third match – the alliance captain’s robot had some mechanical issues causing their scoring mechanism to stop working, and our other alliance partner’s robot was tipped over during the match.    <\/p>\n

Congratulations to the team on their great run during this competition.  <\/p>\n

The team stayed to watch the Einstein Tournament which included the 8 Division Winning alliances to determine the overall FIRST champion. It was a great atmosphere to be part of and the team has committed to work hard again next year and the goal to compete in the Einstein tournament.<\/p>\n
