Have you ever wondered how we make the decision to delay or close school at MLWGS?\u00a0 I thought it may be a good idea to share how we make these decisions since it seems like we are off to an earlier start this year with weather issues.<\/p>\n
To begin with, we are totally dependent upon the transportation decisions of our 12 districts that send us students.\u00a0 As a result, our decisions will always come out after the other cities and counties make theirs.\u00a0 We try to get our word out by 6:00am, but sometimes it may be a little later.<\/p>\n
The first thing that we do is look at the four largest divisions that we serve: Chesterfield, Richmond, Henrico, and Hanover.\u00a0 These students make up about 80% of our population.\u00a0 If three of these divisions close or delay, we will follow suit.\u00a0 If two of these divisions close or delay, we take a closer look at the surrounding divisions and see how many of them are closed or delayed.\u00a0 Additionally, we always take a good look at Richmond as our building is physically located in the city.\u00a0 In these cases, we will always err on the side of caution.<\/p>\n
Remember, if your district is delayed or closed and we are open, you follow the rules of your district.\u00a0 Any absence or loss of time due to a conflict between our schedule and your home district\u2019s schedule is an excused absence.\u00a0 If you can make it in, that\u2019s great, but not expected.\u00a0 Please know that we always put your safety first and if conditions are not safe for travel, please remain at home.\u00a0 Work can always be made up.<\/p>\n
