The Putnam County FCCLA competed at Regional STAR (Students Taking Action for Recognition) Events on February 4th, 2013 with much success. The Putnam County FCCLA had five members who created various projects for judging at Region 3 competition in Salisbury, MO. The events span various areas related to Family and Consumer Sciences. These projects are rigorous and require hours of preparation that, for some of the students, is done outside of class. Students develop a range of items including interior design boards, research portfolios, and oral presentations. It allows students to develop oral and written communication in areas of personal interest.
Students competed against other FCCLA members across the northeast corner of the state. Students can receive gold, silver, or bronze based on the scoring of their projects at regional competition. All five students who competed received 1st place in their events and a Gold rating, which qualified them all to move on to State STAR events.
The following students advanced to the 2013 State STAR events:
Fashion Design – Christian B.
Career Investigation – Heather N.
Interior Design – Camile B.
STOP the Violence – Haley B. & Kaisee P.
The 2013 State STAR events are being held April 7th – 9th in Columbia, MO.
