On the eve of Halloween, students in Nutrition and Wellness have been utilizing the most famous icon, the pumpkin. As part of the project, students constructed pamphlets explaining the health benefits of pumpkin. They also had to learn how to clean and bake the seeds and the pumpkin pulp. In the midst of the project students were allowed 20 minutes to carve the pumpkins before they were dissembled for use in recipes. Students enjoyed utilizing the entire pumpkin while having some competition. Students used their fresh pumpkin to make pumpkin muffins, bread, cake, and had left-over puree for pie and other foods for later in the year.
Students in Housing and Interiors have been studying basic house construction. Students have utilized online tools that allow them to create detailed blue prints throughout the unit. To apply the concepts learned in class, students have been constructing house models made of various sizes of popsicle sticks. They must construct and label different parts of their model using a scale which must contain a window opening, door opening, floor, wall, and roof framing.
