Assignments and material for both of these classes will be modified to fit the needs and goals of each student.
Course Description: These two classes are designed for a modified instructional approach to Math and Communication Arts.
Language arts is a required course that will consist of grammar/usage/mechanics, greek/latin roots & prefixes, literary types, poetry, short stories, drama, novels, and nonfiction. Also, films will be used to enhance student learning.
Math course will stress the use of precise mathematical language and will develop an understanding of the structure of the real number system. Uses of variables with the four basic operations and linear sentences are covered. Quadratic and exponential functions are introduced.
Daily lesson targets will be given. Every effort will be made to have assignments that meet your skill level. Your job is to just try every assignment and improve math and language skills. Grading scale: Running total of points/Look on SIS for grade updates. If taking EOC 15% of course grade. 90-100 A 80-89 B 70-79 C 60-69 D 59 and below F *You will be graded on class participation. Each class we will also start the day with an announcement or warm-up activity to practice and refresh some skills that everyone must do for a grade and to conclude an exit ticket of what you learned that day is also required three times a week. Variety of resources will be used from books, computers, lecture, and projects.
Classroom Procedures & Rules:
1. If you have homework, reading to finish, or any other schoolwork bring it to class and you will receive assistance when you need it time permitting. Remember, you have to make the effort and take responsibility.
2. No cussing/inappropriate language or making fun of anyone during the class period, no exceptions. Bullying will not be tolerated.
3. Be on time unless you have permission from another teacher or myself, have a seat, and don’t distract other while they are working.
4. Leave stuff in the classroom alone that is not yours.
5. Follow school expectation and rules. Look in the student agenda if needed.
6. Have fun while trying.
7. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
