In conjunction with FFA Week, Feb.21-25, Mrs. Whitworth’s Third Grade class celebrated agriculture.  The kids were given an extra credit assignment to write about agriculture.  The writing pieces included poems and paragraphs about what agriculture means to them or how agriculture affects them.  They were also given the challenge that if they all wore green a certain day, then they would have a “green party”.  The “green party” consisted of healthy green food and a few games centered around agriculture and green words.

Below are a few of the writing examples.

My dad is involved in agriculture because he drives a truck and transports goods to another place.  Sometimes he transports rice and other stuff.  He transports crackers.  That is why my dad is a part of agriculture.

Agriculture is a way of life for me and my family.  We plant a garden every year to can and freeze vegetables to eat.  Some people sell their vegetables to others to eat.  We raise cattle to eat and sell.  They go all over the world for people to eat.  If we didn’t have agriculture we would not have any food to eat or furniture to sleep or sit on.  We would have nothing.

Agriculture is used in our community every day.  Farmers feed their animals from grain made from the land.  They make grain from the corn they grow on their land.  Ag is important to us because it is how we eat.

Agriculture is the crops and animals people use for food.  Agriculture is important to all people.  We have corn, beans, vegetables, and animals such as cows, sheep, pigs, goats, and chickens in our community.  These animals give us meat to eat, eggs, wool for yarn, and milk and cheese.  Farmers and gardeners grow fruit trees, citrus fruit, tropical fruit, peanuts, wheat, rice, and sunflowers in other communities.  We would die without agriculture and farmers.
