October 8 was a special day in the elementary! Each child’s grandparents or special person were invited to visit the school from 9:00 – 10:30. When grandparents arrived, they went to the gym to wait for each grade to make a short presentation. As the grandparents waited, they visited with each other and had refreshments. Each classroom had a poster hanging on the gym wall. So, as the grandparents waited, they were able to write a sweet message to their grandchild on the posters.
At 9:30, each grade presented their short skits to the grandparents. Several grades sang songs and recited poems/chants about grandparents and/or school subjects.
When all of the presentations were over, the grandparents visited the children’s classrooms. This is not always an easy task. Some visits were kept short due to the grandparent having several grandkids. In the classroom, the children were able to tell the grandparents about what they have been learning in school, read to them, show them around the room, and many other things. It is always enjoyable to meet the grandparents and hear stories about the kids. Before long, the children were hugging their grandparents, giving them their cards, and kissing their good-byes.
We look forward to another Grandparent’s Day next year!
