Eligibility for Running Start:
- You must be a high school junior or senior to participate in Running Start at WSU.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher automatically qualifies a student to participate in the program without providing a college test score from either the ACT of the SAT.
- If your cumulative GPA is less than a 3.5 to participate in RST at WSU the student needs an ACT score (approximately 29) or SAT score (approximately 1200) that produces a Freshman Admissions Index number greater than 60.
WSU Running Start Application Process for NEW students:
1) Meet with School Counselor
2) Complete forms in Final Forms
3) School Counselor will send you a link to WSU Application
-
When the student’s parent approves, the application will be sent to the appropriate high school counselor for their endorsement.
-
WSU will process the application and email the student the following: information on WSU Running Start, their WSU Student ID number, and their registration appointment time for the term. Please note: once a student has been entered into the WSU portal, they can find their registration appointment time in the portal. Most times, it is the Wednesday before classes begin for the semester, but they are able to see this date in the portal.
Continuing Running Start students do not need to re-apply
1) Meet with School Counselor
2) Complete three required forms
OTHER INFORMATION
- Please note that you are responsible for your enrollment in courses at WSU. This includes meeting the requirements for enrolling in a course as outlined in the course prerequisites in the WSU Catalog and understanding deadlines for withdrawing from a course as stated in the WSU Academic Calendar.
- If you choose to take a course that has prerequisites, you must contact the department directly to inquire about specific documentation the department may need. The WSU Registrar's Office has no authority to grant you permission to enroll in any course of which you do not meet prerequisites. This includes any courses that have placement requirements.
- Math and English classes require placement exams prior to enrolling. There may be other classes that require them, as well. Be sure to check the course requirements.
All placement exam costs are the responsibility of the student.
