For Parents
It’s true: Parents are their child’s chief advocate and most essential teacher – at homework time and always. We have decided to start designing a suite of tools that will help you to help your child learn more.
At right you will find the initial episodes in a library of videos we are shooting and editing just for parents. In these first clips, our teacher-writers describe how to help your child have a positive math experience, who wrote Common Core’s math curriculum, and how to work with your child’s teacher and school. We have more videos in development on a variety of topics including the philosophy behind our curriculum, grade-by-grade overviews, and how to find additional resources available for you on commoncore.org.
Below is the start of another library – a series of print materials. Our “tip sheets” are guides designed to provide you with module-by-module guidance for supporting your child’s study of math. Do you know how to make a number bond or use a rekenrek? Need a refresher on how to use a number line? Struggling to remember what a decimal fraction is? Don’t worry – we’ve covered that and much more.
Many of us are parents too, and our goal is to provide you with the tools you need to support your student. Please write us at parents@commoncore.org and tell us if there are other ways we can help you to help your child experience “little eurekas” of their own.
