The J. Frank Dobie Tennis team finished their season 3rd place in district with a 6-2 record and 11-10 overall on Tuesday, Oct 16.
The team started the season with a gap to fill after losing 13 seniors, eight of which were starters.
“The season has been kind of rough since we lost so many seniors from last year,” Senior Camille Smith said. “but the team has still worked hard.”
Their season ended after a loss against Deer Park 10-4 in the first round of the playoffs October 16.
Despite their early playoff exit, Captain Sebastian Delgado believes that next season the tennis team will bounce back with their girls lineup and doubles.
“The overall view this year was that we had a more solid girls lineup than our boys,” said Delgado. “We improved greatly on our doubles this year.
“Overall, we just have to figure out how to enhance this coming tournament containing the powerhouse Kingwood. Also a hardened and experienced Atascosita team, but I believe this team can do it.”
During the season, the tennis team also helped the community by donating water to the school nurse and sending money to the hurricane relief effort in North and South Carolina.
