Mae Smythe Elementary Students, Local Engineering Company Join Forces to Support Troops
Mae Smythe Elementary School teamed up with PinnacleAIS, a Pasadena-based engineering company, to kick off the first annual Armed Forces Care Package Drive in celebration of Memorial Day.
The school began their annual Memorial Day Celebration about five years ago to honor these brave heroes. PinnacleAIS approached Mae Smythe about the Armed Forces Care Package Drive and the school gladly accepted to work with the company on this initiative.
Directed by music teachers Angela Reid and Ryan Fountain, students and veterans participated in a musical celebration with representatives from PinnacleAIS including Angela Carrillo, Shaquille Edward, along with Chris Cabana, a teacher who introduced the project and challenged students and staff to donate items.
Colorful sheets of pink, white, and light blue paper provided lists of supplies needed to assemble the care packages. Not one to ever back down from a challenge and patriotic to her core, Mrs. Quita Brown, the school’s principal, surprised Cabana and stepped forward along with Assistant Principal Denise Moody to accept a full printed sheet.
PinnacleAIS used donation boxes to collect items at all their facilities and joined Mae Smythe students recently to assemble and ship the care packages. Each package included letters and pictures from students, reminding soldiers overseas that they are remembered back home.
