The Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) held a virtual celebration to announce this year’s HCDE Board of Trustee Exemplary Award recipients. The event also recognized Gold and Silver Scholastic Art and Writing Award recipients.
Dobie High School senior Nabila Munshi was selected as one of only two Exemplary Award winners for her artwork entitled, “Ornate Origins.” The designation also came with a monetary prize of $1,000.
The art piece, which won a National Gold Medal in the Scholastic Art and Writing Contest, involved a technique called paper quilling, the coiling and shaping of narrow paper strips to create a design.
The art piece has close ties to her native home of Bangladesh, as the ornate patterns and designs could be found on rugs used by her family for daily prayer back home.
Congratulations Nabila!
