Superintendent to Launch New Book with Signing at Barnes & Noble

Barnes and Noble at 5656 Fairmont Parkway in Pasadena is hosting a book signing event with Pasadena ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kirk Lewis on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 1-3 p.m. to launch his new book entitled “Put Away Childish Things.”
Dr. Lewis, who also serves as a deacon at South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena, retells many of the Bible’s well-known Old Testament children’s stories through an adult lens as expressed through the imagined thoughts of the characters. According to Dr. Lewis, the deeper truths of the Bible often get lost in the simplicity of the stories learned as children in Sunday School.
The book includes stories about Noah and the Flood, Abraham and Isaac, David and Goliath and Daniel in the Lion’s Den.
“We hear these stories so often the characters become caricatures, almost too perfect, instead of the ordinary people whom God called to do extraordinary things,” said Dr. Lewis. “When we imagine their thoughts not unlike the thoughts we might have under similar circumstances, we learn how we should respond to God’s call in our own life and time.”
Prior to its release, the book garnered positive praise from Eric Cruz, author of ‘An Interview with Lucifer,’ who called the manuscript “very readable, sincere and fresh.” He praised the writing as “beautifully worded, filled with rich, vivid imagery.”
