Pasadena ISD Bus Driver Goes Above and Beyond After Tornado

Nellie Allen poses after being interviewed by the Pasadena ISD communications department.

Nellie Allen has been a bus driver since 2012, her dedication to her job became truly apparent on January 24th, the day a EF3 tornado tore through Pasadena and Deer Park.

After the tornado, Allen still was in charge of dropping off the elementary students of Golden Acres. As she drove her usual route, she and the students noticed that one of the stops was severely damaged by the tornado and blocked off by a tree. Nellie could not get into their neighborhood, so instead she drove around to a nearby park and walked each student home. Holding the children’s hands as they went, walking through mud and debris, Nellie made sure each student made it to their family safely.

When asked about her actions, Allen simply said “My job is to get my kids home safely.. I was just doing my job.” And that’s exactly what she did: went above and beyond for her kids, with passionate and determined commitment every step of the way.

Allen is an exemplary example of someone dedicated to their work. This year alone, she has achieved perfect attendance at work.
