Pasadena ISD in need of band & orchestra instruments
Our hearts may be filled with the sound of music, but as a result of Hurricane Harvey and its flood waters, the band & orchestra halls of many Pasadena ISD schools may not.
“Thompson Intermediate lost all 270+ instruments and many more were lost throughout the district,” said Linda Fletcher, Pasadena ISD Fine Arts Director.
Fletcher adds that while some of the instruments may be replaced by insurance, the time span can be anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks for some instruments and up to 2 years for other specialized instruments.
Fletcher emphasized that on top of instruments being totaled that were school property, many students lost instruments when their homes were damaged by the floods.
As if that wasn’t enough, many students were renting instruments and parents have come forward to say the cost of flood damage has forced them to reevaluate their expenses and they can no longer afford to rent instruments. “Instrument rentals can be anywhere from $40 to $80 a month,” said Fletcher.
Fletcher is asking for assistance from anyone around the area, state or country willing to donate band instruments. “If you have an instrument in your home that is no longer being used, we will be happy to put it to good use,” pleaded Fletcher.
“We will accept almost any working musical instrument except, guitars or electric pianos.”
Anyone wishing to donate an instrument can send them to or drop them off at Pasadena ISD Fine Arts Department, â„… Linda Fletcher at 1515 Cherry Brook Lane, Pasadena TX 77502.
If you would like to donate money earmarked to purchase instruments, the Pasadena ISD Education Foundation will be accepting cash or check donations at the same address, c/o Cindy Parmer.
Additionally, a website has been created where PayPal donations will be accepted as well.
