ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION HEARING
The Northwest Allen County Schools Board met for an Additional Appropriation Hearing on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. Those present: Kent Somers, Liz Hathaway, Ron Felger, John Hilger and Steve Bartkus. Also present: Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff, Bill Mallers, Lisa Harris, staff and a reporter.
President Kent Somers called the hearing to order. Bill Mallers presented the Additional Appropriation information. Board member questions were asked and answered. There were no audience comments. Kent Somers adjourned the hearing.
BOARD OF FINANCE MEETING
The Northwest Allen County Schools Board met for the annual Board of Finance organizational meeting on Monday, January 30, 2017 immediately following the Additional Appropriation Hearing in the Central Office Board Room. Those present: Kent Somers, Liz Hathaway, Ron Felger, John Hilger and Steve Bartkus. Also present: Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff, Bill Mallers, Lisa Harris, staff and a reporter.
Motions herewith mentioned are unanimous unless otherwise stated.
President Kent Somers called the meeting to order. Per NACS Bylaw 0151.1, Officers of the Board of Finance are the same as the Board of School Trustees. Motion to approve the Officers of the Board of Finance the same as the Board of School Trustees by John Hilger; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried. Mr. Mallers recommended Garrett State Bank as the depository selection. Motion to accept by Liz Hathaway; seconded by John Hilger. Motion carried. Mr. Mallers presented checks issued by NACS that have not been cashed in a two-year time period that need board approval for deletion. Motion to delete checks as presented by Ron Felger; seconded by Liz Hathaway. Motion carried. Mr. Mallers reported on the investments and interest earned as follows: General Fund $49,005.02 and Health Insurance Fund $14,538.51; Total $63,543.53. Per NACS Investment Income Policy # 6144, recommended investment income be receipted into the General Fund; with the exception of investment income calculated and receipted separately for the Health Insurance Fund. Motion to approve by John Hilger; seconded by Liz Hathaway. Motion carried. There was no Miscellaneous Financial Business.

J. GRANT/DONATION ACCEPTANCE Brad Zern, Eel River Principal, requested permission to accept a grant in the amount of $700.00 from the Target Foundation to be used for 1st Grade learning activities.
Jamie Wilkins, Oak View Principal, requested permission to accept a donation in the amount of $1,000.00 from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. Oak View will be using this donation to enhance the students' understanding of college and career readiness. Jada Conner, Director of Special Education, requested permission to accept the donation of a riding vehicle from Peg Perego. The estimated value of this donation is $915.75. Motion to approve by Ron Felger; seconded by Liz Hathaway. Motion carried. Kent Somers thanked the donors for their contributions.
K. CONFLICT OF INTEREST DISCLOSURES Recommended the enclosed Conflict of Interest disclosure statements completed for Steve Bartkus, Ron Felger and Kent Somers. Upon board approval these statements will be filed with the State Board of Accounts and the Allen County Circuit Court. Motion to approve the Conflict of Interest Disclosure for Steve Bartkus by Ron Felger; seconded by Liz Hathaway. Steve Bartkus abstained. Motion carried. Motion to approve the Conflict of Interest Disclosure for Ron Felger by Liz Hathaway; seconded by John Hilger. Ron Felger abstained. Motion carried.
