General troubleshooting:

- Choose the Basic tab
- Choose time range = All time
- Check the boxes for: Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files
- Clear data
- Check that all Chrome OS updates have been run.
- Look for messages in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Blue message: An update is recommended..
- Orange message: An update is required.
- Select Restart to update.
- The Chromebook will restart and update.
- If Chrome OS is NOT up-to-date:
- Browse to chrome://settings
- Choose About Chrome from the Setting menu
- Select Check for Updates
- If the Chromebook finds a software update, it will start to download automatically.
- Restart the device.
- Confirm that the Meet app is not installed; uninstall it if it is.
General performance improvements:
- Close extra tabs or apps
- Disconnect high-resolution displays (QHD, 4K, etc.)
- Reduce the device’s heat (causes the CPU to struggle, particularly on older devices)
- Use the device on a hard surface rather than on fabrics so air can circulate
- Do NOT use the device while it is charging (when possible)
Meet-specific troubleshooting:
- Avoid putting another window on top of the Meet window (window layering can cause more GPU load)
- Make the Chrome window smaller
- Before starting the Meet, lower the video resolution to 360p
- Click the three dots in the video window, go to Settings, Video
- Use the Spotlight feature to show only the presenter
- In the Meet, click the three dots in the bottom right corner, choose Change Layout
- Turn off the camera if not needed and if permitted by the teacher
- Check your camera and microphone before the Meet starts
- Choose Check your audio and video. This opens a "green room" so you can test your camera and mic before the meeting.
- You can only join a Meet during scheduled Meet times. If you get a Google Meet message of "you can't join at this time, contact your teacher to rejoin the meet. (This is not a "tech" issue.)
- If you cannot see or hear yourself, do a quick check of Meet Permissions:
- Browse to chrome://settings/content
- Under Recent Activity = https://meet.google.com Allow camera, allow mic, allow notifications
- If you do not see allow camera and/or allow mic, click the arrow to the left and locate the camera and mic icon(s). Choose Allow from the drop down menu using the arrow icon.
- Another way to check your camera prior to your Meet:
- Laptops: In the "Type here to search" window, type camera. Choose Camera app to make sure your camera is working.
- Chromebooks: Open the launcher menu and click the camera icon to make sure your camera is working.
- If clearing your cache did NOT work, try this:
- Browse to chrome://settings/content
- Choose Privacy and Security
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Advanced
- Locate Reset and clean up and click Restore settings to their original defaults.
- Click Reset Settings
- Close browser, reopen, and try Meet again.
