This document will help troubleshoot issues you may be having while trying to un-publish Canvas Quizzes.

When using the quiz feature in Canvas, teachers sometimes want a newly created quiz to remain hidden/unpublished until it is time for students to take the quiz. While building quizzes, though, often, a teacher will use the student view to preview the quiz, or they will take the quiz themselves in order to ensure accuracy in the layout/setup for the quiz questions or organization.

Canvas, though, will not allow a quiz to be unpublished once student data for the quiz has been recorded. So, there are three explanations for a quiz that can't be unpublished:

a. Test Student has completed quiz

b. Instructor completed quiz

c. Students enrolled in the class completed the quiz
