REGULAR MEETING
The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in regular session on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: Kent Somers, Liz Hathaway, Paul Sloffer, Ron Felger and John Hilger. Also present: Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff, Bill Mallers, Lisa Harris, staff, students, parents, patrons and reporters.
Motions herewith mentioned are unanimous unless otherwise stated.
President Kent Somers called the meeting to order. Motion to approve the minutes of the April 25, 2016 regular meeting and May 6, 2016 executive session as presented by Paul Sloffer; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
A. CORPORATION POLICY CHANGES - SECOND READING
Mr. Himsel presented the second reading of the Corporation policy Changes.
B. 2016-17 TEXTBOOK ADOPTION Requested permission to adopt the Textbooks as enclosed beginning with the 2016-17 school year. Motion to approve by John Hilger; seconded by Liz Hathaway. Motion carried.
C. 2016-17 STUDENT HANDBOOKS Recommended the enclosed Student Handbooks for the 2016-17 school year. Motion to approve by Ron Felger; seconded by John Hilger. Liz Hathaway moved to amend the motion to postpone consideration of the sections regarding lettering for the Boys and Girls Track and Cross Country pending additional information; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion to amend carried. Vote taken to approve the amended motion. Motion carried.
D. RESOLUTION REGARDING TRANSPORTATION SERVICES Recommended the enclosed resolution regarding transportation services. Motion to approve by Ron Felger; seconded by John Hilger. Motion carried.
PTO STUDENT ARTWORK PRESENTATION
Dr. Shamanoff welcomed Jill Cotant, Carroll High PTO Representative. Mrs. Cotant introduced NACS Student Artists and presented their artwork to the board. The artwork will be on display in the NACS Central Office for the upcoming school year.
PERSONNEL/COMMUNICATIONS
A. RESIGNATIONSMark Donaldson, Hickory Center Instructional Assistant, resigned as of 2/29/16. Mitch Hill, Maple Creek Teacher, resigned as of the end of the 2015-16 school year. Victor Hopkins, Carroll Middle Security Officer, resigns as of 5/27/16. Christopher Meihls, Bus Driver, resigned as of 6/1/16. Rhonda Moore, Oak View Food Service Assistant, resigned as of 5/31/16. Motion to approve claims and payroll, subject to audit, by Liz Hathaway; seconded by John Hilger. Motion carried.
Board Comments: Ron Felger said this resolution is the most drastic action taken by the NACS school board in his 34 years of being on the school board.
