On Campus Students:

This means that the student is choosing to come to the school to have a place to work on their classes and receive instruction and support from teachers.

Summer school runs from 8:00am-12:00pm at Vanguard Academy, House 1.  Students can come anytime within those hours.  They can come some or all of the days. Students sign in and sign out. We do not take attendance. All prescriptive testing and final tests are proctored on campus with summer school staff. Students will still work on their courses at home/off campus as well. Transportation to and from summer school is available on a limited basis upon request.

Off Campus Students:

Students will come on campus to take their prescriptive tests for each course (one at a time).  They choose to work on the courses at home, on their own time.  Off campus students are welcome to come on campus if they need help or need a quiet place to work on their courses.  All students must complete final exams on campus with summer school staff during summer school hours 8:00am-12:00pm. This can be coordinated with their teacher.

*Note: Knowing the intentions of the student to primarily work on campus the majority of the time opposed to just coming in for tests, helps plan accordingly for supervision and course management.

FAQ:

  1. Will I have a teacher?  Yes, all students will be assigned to a Summer School Teacher as their point of contact. Students will work with that teacher to ensure course completion.
  2. Can I work on my classes from home?  Yes!  You can work on your classes 24/7 from anywhere in the United States (out of country sometimes glitches and your school chromebook won’t work).  But, you must still come on campus for prescriptive testing and final exams.
  3. If I finish my class early, can I take the final early?  Yes!  You can come in to take your final as soon as you get to the final exam in your course.  You will coordinate this with your assigned teacher.
  4. If I finish a class can I start another one?  Yes!  You can start another class once you have completed the final exam.
  5. How many classes can I do during summer school?  Students will work on one class at a time.  They may complete as many classes as possible depending on how quickly they complete each course. All courses must be completed by July 18th.
  6. Can students with IEPs do summer school?  Yes!  There will be a Special Education Teacher who will be assigned to these students for support.
  7. If I’m an off campus student, can I come in for help?  Yes!!! Everyone is welcome to come in.  We encourage students to spend time with the teachers and ask for help if they are struggling.
  8. What if I never start the course? Will I get an F? If you do not start the course by a date TBD, you will be dropped from summer school with no consequences.  If you start the course but do not finish it, you will be dropped with no consequences. There will be no F’s in summer school.

Tips for Summer School Success:

  1. Get started early!  Do not procrastinate getting started.
  2. Ask for help.  We have teachers ready and willing to help you be successful.
  3. Check your school email OFTEN!  Teachers will be communicating with you through email and google chat.  If you don’t check it, you won’t know what’s going on.
  4. If you have more than one class to get done, you will need to work with your teacher to make sure your timelines are set accordingly.
