Sheila Kries & Thomas Jay

Kries named New Principal of Moses Lake High School

Moses Lake, Washington– The Moses Lake School District is pleased to announce Sheila Kries as the new principal for Moses Lake High School starting the 2022-2023 school year. 

Ms. Kries is currently an assistant principal of Moses Lake High School where she has served since 2016. Prior to coming to Moses Lake, she has held administrative positions as well as taught Humanities classes at the high school level in the Seattle and Spokane areas. Her former positions include Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, School Librarian and High School Science and Humanities Teacher.

Kries brings a wealth of teaching and administrative experience; earning a Bachelor’s degree in science/Education and a 5th year German studies from Seattle University, a Master’s degree from Boston College, and Principal Certifications from Gonzaga University and Seattle Pacific University.

Upon accepting the position, Ms. Kries says, “Moses Lake High School has and remains the central learning hub for adolescents of Moses Lake.  While these past several Covid years have been challenging for our adolescents, their parents, and school staff, this past spring has given us hope for a renewal of all good things we expect of a high school.  I look forward to commencing with the 22-23 school year,  welcoming new and returning “Mavericks” to the high school. I also want to thank Triscia Hochstatter for all of her hard work and dedication to the High School.  She will be a tough act to follow.”

Ms. Kries and her husband live in Moses Lake and enjoy the fishing opportunities in the area. They also enjoy spending time with their family - especially the grandchildren.

Thomas Jay named New Assistant Principal of Moses Lake High School

Moses Lake, Washington– The Moses Lake School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Thomas Jay as an Assistant Principal for Moses Lake High School starting the 2022-2023 school year. Jay will be replacing the position vacated by Jake Long who will be moving to Frontier Middle School as the principal.

As a longtime educator, Mr. Jay has served students since 2001 where he began as a high school English teacher, then as a principal in South Tacoma area and is currently the Superintendent of Skykomish School District. 

Jay is not a stranger to eastern Washington as he earned a Bachelor of Arts English degree from Washington State University. He also earned a Master of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction with emphasis in Instructional Technology from Our Lady of the Lake University and completed a K-12 Principal Certification program at Seattle University.
