Career Exploration provides an option for 9th and 10th grade students who need pre-vocational preparation. It is a vocational assessment program for students ranging in age from 14 to 18+ with learning disabilities. The program prepares students to develop the necessary skills to progress into a CTE program in their junior and senior years, if appropriate. However, students may continue in the Career Exploration program.

Students gain hands-on experience in a variety of career areas, and progress through a series of units designed to promote the development and application of life skills, in addition to entry level skills training.

As students progress through Career Exploration I and II, they acquire the knowledge and skills needed to live independently and to obtain entry level employment. Short-term internships and visits to local businesses are integral, providing workplace learning opportunities. Field trips to area businesses provide students with an introduction to workplace expectations.

Placement is made through a recommendation by the local committee on Special Education as noted on the Individualized Education Program (IEP) documentation, and in conjunction with the home school guidance counselor or principal.
