About

Madison-Oneida BOCES is a regional cooperative agency providing services to support area students, teachers, administrators and schools in achieving educational excellence. We provide a wide range of instructional programs, non-instructional services, leadership and expertise to nine school districts in Madison and Oneida counties in Upstate New York.

Founded in 1968, we are part of a statewide network of BOCES centers that support schools through shared services, cost efficiencies and regional programming. Our main campus is in Verona, N.Y., but our work and network span across the Mohawk Valley and the state.

What Is A BOCES?
Madison-Oneida BOCES is part of a statewide network of cooperative educational agencies that offer shared educational programs and support services that allow participating districts to effectively deliver instruction and maintain school operations. Learn more.

Our Component Districts
Each BOCES agency serves specific schools in its geographic region. MOBOCES serves nine districts in eastern Madison and southern Oneida counties: Camden, Canastota, Hamilton, Madison, Morrisville-Eaton, Oneida, Rome, Stockbridge Valley and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill. We also serve the New York State School for the Deaf in Rome.

Our Successes

  • We serve about 4,000 learners across the region with programs that include pre-kindergarten, Career and Technical Education, Special Education, literacy program for adults and out-of-school youth, and a variety of vocational and avocational offerings.
  • We offer academic and enrichment summer programs for students in grades Pre-K-12, both on our campus and in districts in the region.
  • We partner with a neighboring BOCES to host a Continuing Education Consortium, which offers vocational and avocational programs at multiple sites across three counties
  • We operate 3 of the state’s Literacy Zones, a grant-funded family and community literacy initiative, and participates in the Madison County and Oneida County Literacy Coalitions.
 

Our Staff
MOBOCES employs about 750 full-time and part-time staff. This includes 241 full-time teachers and instructional support staff and 289 non-instructional service providers.

Professional Development
Our Staff and Curriculum Development team leads workshops and trainings for teachers and administrators, arranges presentations and seminars led by high-profile education experts, and organizes regional conferences designed to build capacity. This team coordinates more than a dozen Professional Learning Communities in our region.

Technology Support
MOBOCES houses the Mohawk Regional Information Center (MORIC), one of 12 statewide information center that offer instructional and administrative technology support, technology purchasing, data analysis and professional development services to participating schools. MORIC serves 50 school districts and 4 BOCES in a five-county region.

Non-Instructional Services
We offer a number of non-instructional and administrative support services to assist school districts in effectively and efficiently meeting their goals. These include business and human resource services, cafeteria management, technology support, shared printing, school communication services, shared facilities maintenance, share bus maintenance, labor relations and board policy development, grant writing and cooperative bidding.

Community Connections
We maintain dozens of partnerships with colleges, businesses, government agencies and area non-profits. These partnerships make our student programming richer and create stronger ties with our local communities.

Our Facilities
Beyond our main campus, we offer programs and services in Oneida, Rome, New Hartford and Utica. On campus, our student programs utilize a Maple Syrup Production Facility, Saw Mill, Greenhouse and Nature Trail as well as classroom labs with state-of-the-art, industry standard equipment.

Our Leadership and Service
We actively participate in statewide committees, initiatives and projects that help bring a broad range of expertise to our region. Our programs have been recognized for excellence and service at the regional, state and national levels.

Our Board of Education
Each of our nine component school districts appoints one community representative to serve on the MOBOCES regional board. Board members set policy, develop our budget and serve as liaisons with our schools.
