Woodruff Elementary School
Woodruff Wildcat Families,
As you can imagine a lot has changed about Woodruff Elementary since it became a school back in the late 1800s. It goes without saying that the vision and goals have probably changed as well, but I bet that they have always been pretty similar over the years. Always putting the needs of the students first and foremost. As has always been done, we too have put our students first and are doing whatever it takes to help our students prepare for their future. The current vision of Woodruff Elementary is:
Our school will prepare students for their tomorrow by honoring our collective commitments and empowering students to be self-motivated learners who expect the best of themselves.
We hope to be able to accomplish this vision by way of our mission, which is:
WE LEARN AT HIGH LEVELS
WE REACH OUR GOALS
WE DO WHATEVER IT TAKES
WE ARE TEAM WILDCATS
A perfect example of the things that we try to do to help our students learn at high levels is becoming a STEM designated school. In the 2015-2016 school year, Woodruff was one of only 21 schools to receive the STEM school designation. While we were one of 21 designations, we were in the top 6 schools and we received a gold level designation. We have since gone through the redesignation process during the 2020-2021 school year and were able to be redesignated a STEM school at the Gold Status.
Currently, Woodruff is a Title I school. This means that because of the percentage of students who receive free or reduced lunch, Woodruff receives funding to help our students in reading, writing, and math. It also means that as a parent/stakeholder in a Title I school, you have the opportunity to give input through the community council, PTA or directly to the administration regarding any Title I services. Our Community Council and PTA welcome comments and participation from all. You can get contact information of our community Council or PTA from our school website or you can call the office and we can help you.
My name is Matt Bennett and I am the current principal of Woodruff Elementary. I have been part of this Woodruff community for the past five and half years and have loved every minute of it. Prior to becoming principal of Woodruff I had the privilege of being a special education teacher for 20 years.
I am surrounded by a wonderful faculty and staff who really have the best intentions for your students and for Woodruff. I am very happy and excited that I have the chance to work with this Woodruff community. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns that I might be able to help you with. I would be happy to meet with you.. I look forward to continuing to build our relationship.
Mr. Matt Bennett
