Dear Harrison Families,
What an amazing start to our Read-A-Thon! On Friday, we were at the halfway point of a fun goal to push our children to read more than they ever could! It has been fun to award prizes and to have classrooms compete to see who can read the most! I am also impressed with the community's generosity in fundraising! A big thank you to the PTA, who are organizing this fun-filled event. It takes a lot of effort to create and gather prizes for our kids throughout the event! The Read-A-Thon ends on February 11! So get reading!
Thank you to all the teachers who helped make our 100th Day of School special! I hope your children enjoyed the special activity on Friday!
As I speak, the Talent Show is in progress! I want to acknowledge all the parents who practiced with their students to showcase their talents on stage today! I hope you made lasting memories. Thank you to the PTA members who have kept this tradition at Harrison alive for 26 years! It is a massive undertaking for the benefit of all our children.
TREP$ is back! Our popular project-based entrepreneurship after-school program for 4th & 5th graders is returning for another exciting season of creativity, teamwork, and innovation. Registration will open on February 23rd at 8:00 PM, and Workshops will begin on Wednesday, March 11th, from 2:50-3:50 pm. Spots are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Again, this is only for 4th and 5th-grade students. More information will follow this week, but mark your calendars to register.
As we close out our Digital Citizenship series, we’d like to thank you for joining us and leave you with 5 healthy habit tips from Common Sense Media. From phones and tablets to streaming and YouTube, technology is part of everyday life. While it offers many learning and entertainment benefits, it’s easy to overdo it. Families can help keep tech use balanced by following a few simple practices:
- Create screen-free times and zones: Help kids take breaks from tech by limiting screen time in bedrooms, during study time, or at the dinner table.
- Try parental controls: Set content limits that make sense for your family. Alongside conversations about healthy media habits, use features such as content filtering, privacy settings, and time limits offered by the apps and platforms your family uses to help manage access and exposure to media.
- Establish clear family rules: Decide together what kind of media and tech is appropriate and when it's okay to use it. A family media plan can help get everyone on the same page.
- Watch and play together: Choose quality, age-appropriate media to enjoy with your kids. Visit commonsensemedia.org to find shows, games, and more.
- Help kids identify healthy behaviors: Practice talking about feelings -- both physical and emotional -- during screen and non-screen activities.

I want to remind parents to make sure they are abiding by all traffic laws in the surrounding neighborhood, especially during drop-off and dismissal. The LPD will enforce the law upon arrival. I understand the stress of getting to school on time. Please do not park or drop off children in the front circle of the school.
Kindergarten registration is well underway! Thank you to all those parents who have already registered their children for school next year at Harrison! If you have a Kindergarten student who will be attending the Livingston Public Schools next year, please start the registration process! The deadline for current Livingston residents is May 15th. Please see the instructions on the website!
Mark your calendars! On Friday, February 13th, we will celebrate our annual Valentine’s/PJ Day! Please send your child in with comfortable PJs. We will also be collecting donations (Checks written to Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors or Cash) as we always do, to support those in our community in need during Valentine’s Day. I will send more information tomorrow.
