Art Curriculum
This year your child will be involved in art classes under the instruction of Mrs. Sonia McDowell. Your child will have art for 45 minutes once a week. Emphasis is on educating a well-rounded individual through developing skills and attitudes about art and humanities in our world.
Art Curriculum
Buck Lake’s art program includes four areas or disciplines of art (Comprehensive Arts Education):
Aesthetics This area deals with valuing art as an important realm of human experience and explores the BIG questions about art such as: What is art? Why do we create?
Art History This involves understanding the role art has made in the context of human history. Students will study major artists, and artworks across cultures and throughout history.
Art Criticism Students know and understand the criteria for making judgments about artworks. Students know and use appropriate art-related vocabulary. This includes learning to evaluate their own and other student works of art.
Production Students produce artwork in a variety of medium including: drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture, ceramics, and fiber arts.
The Buck Lake art curriculum is based upon the Sunshine State Visual Arts Standards and Benchmarks which are aligned with the National Arts Standards.
