MICHAEL NEWELL('04)

"Michael is married to the former Bethany Brautigam ('04) (also a Chiles alum). They have two children, Claire (7) and Samual (4); they currently reside in Okinawa, Japan. Michael has been in the marine corps for 14 years and holds the rank of staff sergeant. He has been with his current unit, the 3^rd Marine Expeditionary Force band (also in Okinawa), for the last three years and serves as the small ensemble leader, where he will remain until 2022.

Michael oversees our music production sections, including audio reinforcement and recording, videography, and arranging team. He additionally serves the unit as an audio engineer, music composer and arranger, and while not as frequent, he still is an active performer. Outside of work, he and his colleagues started a small collective of fellow audio engineers and composers with the intent to produce new, original music ranging from film scores to chill hop.  Michael has a bachelor of arts in music from Thomas Edison State University and associate of arts from Florida State College of Jacksonville."
