In order to provide not only support for the amazing students of the Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District but also to support the community at large, the SD113A Board of Education has approved an increased pay rate for bus drivers to help with recruitment during an ongoing national driver shortage. At their July 17 meeting, the board approved a new starting rate of $25 an hour for bus drivers, paid training, attendance bonuses, and higher pay for experienced drivers.
Bus drivers are an integral part of any school district. Drivers are the first faces that students see in the morning and the last part of the school day. In recent years, districts across the country have been struggling to recruit and retain qualified drivers, often resulting in longer routes and inconsistent coverage.
“We hear incredible stories from interactions between students and bus drivers and it is just another indication of how important these people are to the success of our schools,” said SD113A Superintendent Dr. Courtney Ozel. “By implementing a higher pay rate for drivers, we are showing our commitment to our community and actively working to ensure that our students have a great start and end to their school day with qualified and consistent drivers.”
Hiring for the 2024-25 school year is ongoing with an increased push to hire staff in support positions. More information about working for SD113A and current openings can be found on the district website.
