Summer Music Camps

The School District of La Crosse offers a number of camps for current music students. These camps will teach currently enrolled music students the skills needed for a successful school year in their music courses and co-curriculars. Among the courses offered are marching band camps, show choir choreography and vocal camps, string bass camp, drumline camp, jazz camp. These camps are restricted to students enrolled in correlating curricular courses for the 24-25 school year. Summer Music Lessons

The School District of La Crosse offers free high quality music lessons to students in Choir, Band and Orchestra. The weekly lessons are 30 minutes and are scheduled based on availability of teaching staff. Students should choose lessons at the school they will be attending in the 24-25 school year. Taking summer lessons is recommended for all music students, but especially beginners! Harry Potter’s World of Hogwarts

Close study of varied wands of varied characters, use of how to create student’s personalized wands or replicas. Studying and reading some excerpts while having fun to re-create or innovate. Students spend their time creating and compiling the materials necessary to begin their first year at Hogwarts! Items include making wands, spell book, potions, broomsticks, house ties, house scarves, trading cards, playing trivia, and more. The class incorporates reading excerpts, a day of Quidditch, and concludes with a Hogwarts induction ceremony. Game playing, Lego Building, all included along with wood carving. . . . prototype building and final product building. Course will run Monday – Friday. NO Classes will be held on July 4th and 5th.

Jr. Rangers Basketball: grades 5-8

A fun and challenging way to improve basketball skills for both boys and girls going into grades 5-8. Learn basic and advanced skills and get introduced to a variety of activities on offense and defense. Come dressed for activity as students will be active throughout the entire class. All skill levels are welcome. The class will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays between June 11 & July 11.

In this class, students will get an interactive exposure into the world of computer science. Students will use Makey Makey STEM kits to learn about basic computer programming, closed loop electrical circuits, and inventive thinking. This course is intended for students at the middle school level who have an interest in computer science.

Rats Eye view: Eco Art in action

Be Green, A Rats Eye View of Garbage is a program that fuses science, environmentalism, and art.

Students will work together to create animal sculptures from reusable materials and learn the chemistry of plastics and forever chemicals. This experience will provide a new perspective, or “Rat’s Eye View” of our human impact on the planet and provide hands-on opportunities for students to advocate for change. This project is sponsored by the Pumphouse Regional Arts Center. Community artists, scientists and university students will collaborate with art educators to provide studio time, research time and field trips to local garbage and recycling plants. Through the written word students will have the opportunity to reflect on their own plastic consumption and their artistic transformations of plastics. These artist statements will be displayed alongside their art in community public spaces.

Throughout this course students will work with adults when using power tools and attachment materials. This green journey allows students to come to terms with their environmental impact, knowledge of individual ways to make change, and how to use art as a form of advocacy.

CS Discoveries: Interactive Animations and Games

In this Interactive Animations and Games course, students create programmatic images, animations, interactive art, and games. Starting off with simple, primitive shapes and building up to more sophisticated sprite-based games, students become familiar with the programming concepts and the design process computer scientists use daily. They then learn how these simpler constructs can be combined to create more complex programs. In the final project, students develop a personalized, interactive program.
