Summer Music Lessons

The School District of La Crosse offers free high quality music lessons to students in Choir, Band and Orchestra. The weekly lessons are 30 minutes and are scheduled based on availability of teaching staff. Students should choose lessons at the school they will be attending in the 24-25 school year. Taking summer lessons is recommended for all music students, but especially beginners! Questions about scheduling may be directed to student’s music teacher or Brian Renkas (brenkas@lacrossesd.org 608-789-3332)

Cooking Fun in the GROW Garden!

Are you ready to make easy, delicious snacks using food right from our GROW school garden? As a class, we will prepare and enjoy a healthy snack each day using produce we have harvested from the garden, while also learning about the science of plants and cooking as well as the health connection to the food we eat. We will learn how to read and follow recipes. In the end, all students will go home with a handmade cookbook of all the recipes. We will also have the opportunity to spend time exploring and tending to the garden, as well as other nearby nature and plants.

Wonderful World of Hogwarts

Students spend their time creating and compiling the materials necessary to begin their first year at Hogwarts! Items include making wands, spell book, potions, broomsticks, house ties, house scarves, trading cards, playing trivia, and more. The class incorporates reading excerpts, a day of Quidditch, and concludes with a Hogwarts induction ceremony. Course will run Monday – Friday. NO Classes will be held on July 4th and 5th.

Legos and Games Galore!

Learn strategic and social skills as we play games such as Monopoly, Uno, Children’s Apples to Apples, Connect 4, Scrabble, Battleship, and more. There will be additional hands-on activities such as Legos. Experience fun with friends and master some games you’ll be able to play at home with your family! This will include Chess as well! Course will run Monday – Friday. NO Classes will be held on July 4th and 5th.

Team Building / Cooperative Play

Do you enjoy working with others and have a competitive spirit? If so, come join us for a fun time. Students will do a variety of activities, both indoors (play games in the gym or playing board games) and outside (such as relay races or gaga ball). Emphasis will be on working together as a team, encouraging each other and having fun over winning. This class starts right after Under construction so that students can stay for 4 hours or just join this class for two hours after construction has ended.

Crafty Crafters

Origami Students complete hands-on activities that teach about origami, an Asian paper-folding art form. From frogs to flowers to airplanes, this class will give students an introduction into the art of folding paper! Jewelry Design, learning basic jewelry terms and how to design basic jewelry. ‘Shrinky Dink’ designs to incorporate into window hangings, garland and additions to their jewelry—learning how to easily apply these techniques to consumable fast food left over items that can be recycled instead of thrown. Look closely at science of why things reduce down percentages by heating up, reading about paper cranes, etc. Course will run Monday – Friday. NO Classes will be held on July 4th and 5th.

COURSE CANCELED – Creative Wellness

Art, Yoga, and Mindfulness: Students KG-5 will learn the connection between art, physical movement, and mental well-being through an hour-long summer class Monday through Thursday. Students will understand balance between mind, body, and spirit by participating in an overview of mindfulness, yoga, and guided art creations. The class will conclude with mini outdoor art show (weather permitting) and goal-setting for continued integration of these lessons.
