On Saturday, Oct. 9, Lamar CISD dedicated its sixth junior high school in honor of Harry Wright, a former teacher, coach and principal. Wright Junior High School is located at 7500 Koeblen Rd in Richmond.
District and campus staff joined Harry Wright's family and friends, elected officials and Wright Junior High School families to celebrate the opening of the school. Attendees enjoyed student performances, remarks from special guests, comments from Harry Wright and a reception and guided building tours after the program.
In the fall of 1957, Wright joined the Lamar CISD family as a science teacher and coach at A.W. Jackson High School in Rosenberg. After integration in 1966, Wright joined the Lamar Consolidated High School faculty as a physical education/health teacher and football coach. He was promoted to assistant principal in 1970 and soon after obtained his Master of Science degree in Counseling and Guidance, and later became the associate principal for the Lamar Consolidated High School Annex. When B.F. Terry High School opened its doors in 1980, Wright transferred down the road and became Terry’s first campus principal. He remained at Terry until his retirement in 1991.
