The Varsity team competed in four dual meets, five invitationals, ECIC Championships, and the Sectional Championship. Calvin won numerous races this season and was on the podium at top tier races like the McQuaid Invitational in Rochester (5th place) and the NY State Class B Championship (15th place). He received honors as an ECIC 1st Team All-Star, Runner of the Week, and named to the All-WNY Cross Country team. He will continue his running career on scholarship at the University of Albany.
GIRLS: Overall divisional record 3 wins 2 losses
The girls program had strong numbers as 25 students participated on all levels. The Varsity team competed in four dual meets, five invitationals, ECIC Championships, and the Sectional Championship. The girls placed 3rd in Division 1 at the East Aurora Invitational, took 1st place in the Class B2 Sectional Championship and finished the season ranked #7 in WNY. The teams #1 runner, sophomore Natalie Cummings, led a team comprised of 7th-11th graders who look to build upon this year’s success and challenge for a Sectional title next year. Natalie captained the team and earned 1st Team ECIC All-Star honors and Runner of the Week during the season. She was consistently in the top 15 runners at invitationals as a sophomore and has missed out on state qualifying by 2-3 runners in the last two years.
As a program we have continued to increase our numbers of participants at all levels and increased our team presence and respect in the high school running community. Successful fundraisers like the Mother’s Day flower sales have allowed for purchasing of team wear and equipment while our Summer Conditioning program for all Lake Shore athletes has created a positive environment for our athletes to develop and prepare for the season. All of our athletes have volunteered time to assist at the elementary and middle school level with the Girls on the Run program and the 100 Mile Boys club. They have shared their running knowledge and personal experiences with these youngsters and have made an impact on their development.
