A non-fiction book by Michael Pollan written in four sections : "The Industrial Meal," "The Industrial Organic Meal," "Local Sustainable Meal," and the "Do-It-Yourself Meal." This novel adds a bit of science to the ELA classroom, where students will delve into the types of food our nation produces, its effect on the human consuming it, the environment, and our pockets. A great read that our students will really enjoy. -
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption
The story of Louis Zamperini, a teenage troublemaker turned Olympic Champion turned WWII Air Corp Bombardier, whose plane was shot down over the Pacific Ocean. He survived at sea for a long while, washed up on Japan's shores, and became a Japanese prisoner-of-war, where he endured unspeakable treatment. -

This is a link to information about To Kill a Mockingbird - A novel that really chronicles two stories. The first, two children that are fixated on neighborhood folklore and the lessons taught to them by their father while trying to find the truth. Second, the story of a sleepy, Southern town and the racial tension that existed in the deep south 70 years after slavery was abolished. -

This link is for the New York State's curriculum site. Our district has decided to use curriculum provided by New York State and Expeditionary Learning for ELA. This web site is where teachers and parents alike can visit and work through porvided curriculum. There are links to both the the mathematics and English/Language Arts modules and curriculum models. -
Edmodo
This link will take you to the sign-in page for edmodo. This is a education-based social networking site. It allows for classroom discussions to take place, student comments on reading, and for interaction between classmates, even when out of the classroom. It is safe, secure, and is teacher-controlled. Most importantly, all homework assignments are posted on my edmodo site on a nightly basis. Students can download any worksheet available for priniting at home.
