Sociology field trip to Journey's End Refugee Services

On November 17th Mrs. Chimera's Sociology class visited Journey's End Refugee Services to learn more about the social and economic impact of refugees on the City of Buffalo and Western New York.  Journey's End was thankful for the donations that  Lake Shore high school students and staff  had collected for the refugees, specifically school supplies and toiletries  They were given a tour of the agency and met an Afghan refugee who had been a translator for the U.S. military and escaped Kabul when the Taliban took over.  They heard the story of a young woman from the Rohingya ethnic group whose family had been persecuted by the Burmese military government.  At the agency they were able to meet the case workers, immigration lawyers and teachers helping refugees transition to life in the United States.  It was a great experience!
