Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

The LISD Board of Trustees and Administration would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!  We hope that this coming year will be prosperous for both you and your families. We are grateful for the progress we have made, but we know there is much to be done as we continue to focus on the academic and social and emotional needs of our students.  This will take a combined effort between the school and our parents, but I believe we can make great progress if we work together. There are many celebrations to come as we provide the resources and support to help our students achieve their goals.

We will continue to engage our community and listen to their concerns and provide the best solutions possible. With that said, our second Town Hall for the 2022-2023 school year will be held January 18, 2023, at 5:30am in the Lackland ISD Auditorium. All are welcome to attend and provide comments and feedback concerning district programs and services.

We also would like to invite everyone to our Annual Cowboy Breakfast which will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 6:30 a.m. in the Lackland Elementary cafeteria.  Please be on the lookout for a message via Parent Square which will allow you to sign up for this exciting event. Signing up is important because it will allow our food service department to estimate how many people to expect.  We hope that you will join us for a great breakfast along with games and other fun activities for our students.

Wishing all of you all the best for 2023! Go Eagles!

Volunteer and Parent Engagement Opportunities

Much of the feedback from our school climate surveys over the past few years have highlighted the need for better communication between the district and our parents.  To meet that need, we are very excited to announce that we have rolled out ParentSquare!

ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:

*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app

*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events

*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items

*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents

For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app.  The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store.  If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well.  ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal.  Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.

 Australia Home:  The Emu

The emu is the second-tallest living bird after its relative, the ostrich. It is native to Australia, where it is the largest native bird and the only existing member of the genus Dromaius. The emu's range covers most of mainland Australia, but the Tasmanian, Kangaroo Island and King Island subspecies became extinct after the European settlement of Australia in 1788.

Emus are soft-feathered, brown, flightless birds with long necks and legs, and can reach up to 1.9 meters (6.2 ft) in height. Emus can travel great distances, and when necessary can sprint at 48 kilometers per hour (30 mph); they forage for a variety of plants and insects, but have been known to go for weeks without eating. They drink infrequently, but take in copious amounts of water when the opportunity arises.
