Admin Alley Teacher Appreciation Week
When things change as they have during this pandemic, we may tend to look back on what we are missing. During this time of year, Lackland ISD has traditionally spent this week, set aside to appreciate teachers, to show our gratitude for all staff. We remember well, the gifts from students, parents, our peers, and administrators that reflect how much each member of the team is appreciated. We also remember the gift of time and love that flows from our Superintendent, Dr. Burnie Roper, who would spend numerous hours making enough peach cobbler and barbecue to feed us physically and emotionally. This year, we have spent our time in separate locations while continuing to meet the needs of our students and their families. Yet, we are still thought of and provided a public promise of future servings of peach cobbler and other forms of appreciation. So, while this year is different the gratitude that flows from you to us and from us to you remains. You are appreciated!
Around the District LISD parents, the weekly resources are here!
This week we are sharing ideas to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week from home! Plus, we are continuing to provide tools to help parents and students with self-care and balance, upcoming PCSing, At- Home AP exam info, Drive Thru Zoo, and other family activities as we ease into Mother’s Day weekend. Our LISD Military Student Transition Consultant is sharing a weekly newsletter to keep families up to date and better equipped with relevant tools during this time we are social distancing.

New Parent Portal Login: https://txeis20.txeis.net/ParentPortal/login?distid=015913 Stacey Happenings The Stacey High School Student Council was recently named as a TASC Outstanding Student Council . In addition, they were recognized as a Sweepstakes Council, the highest honor a TASC council can achieve.
These awards were based on documentation of the student council organization, specific project areas and participation in TASC programs. In addition, Sweepstakes Councils must earn recognition in the areas of Pride and Patriotism, Energy and Environment, and Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health. Finally, Sweepstakes councils must submit their accomplishments in School and Community Service. It takes passion, dedication, purpose, planning, and hard work to achieve this. As of April 19, 2020, only 263 student councils in Texas have this recognition for 2019 – 2020. Student Council leadership for this past year was Isabella Evans, president; Kelsey Traxler, vice-president; Deyana Clark, secretary; Miranda Morales, treasurer. Committee chairs for Pride and Patriotism (P&P) were Lynnae Doulder and Miranda Morales. Committee chairs for Energy and Environment (E&E) were Charla Gloria and Kelsey Traxler. Committee chairs for Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health (DASH) were Lorenzo Almario and Michael Hornsby. Heading up our Spirit Committee were Cayla Bren and Olivia Charles. In charge of our Faculty Committee were Zoey Chrosniak and Maria Orencia. Homecoming Committee was led by Deyana Clark and Amya Turpeau.
Congratulations to Miranda Morales and Gareth Thompson for being named to the THSCA Academic All-State Teams for Track & Field. Miranda achieved Honorable Mention on the Girls’ Team while Gareth achieved 2nd Team on the Boys’ Team. Congratulations to both of these Seniors for all of their hard work, both in the classroom and out.

6th graders in Mrs. Rigby's class had an assignment to create a blackout poem about a form of energy.
6th grade Social Studies: Exploring China Every country that has become a major industrial power has also greatly damaged the environment. China is no different. However, China's speedy rise to becoming a world economic power has resulted in environmental degradation. Almost 500 million people do not have safe drinking water, and the air is unsafe to breathe for 99 percent of the country's urban population. Much of the problems stem from China's heavy reliance on coal-powered plants and factories to provide energy for the country's industries and growing cities.
China's air pollution affects other places, some very far away. Much of the particulate pollution in Los Angeles comes from China. And, of course, China's air pollution contributes to the problem of global warming, which affects the whole planet. Many Chinese leaders have been reluctant to address environmental problems because doing so would raise the price of producing Chinese goods.
