Admin Alley Teacher Appreciation Week is May 3-9, 2020
We believe it can be said that Teacher Appreciation Week has taken on a whole new meaning. Not only are our regular teachers doing an amazing job teaching our students online and in other creative ways, but parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, and close friends have also taken on the role of “Teacher” as we continue to live in unprecedented times during the COVID-19 pandemic. We already knew how dedicated our teachers were and the many wonderful things they did with our students every day. But now everyone knows and can hopefully appreciate the profession of being a teacher and what it entails. I am so proud of our teachers and the job they have been doing to educate our students virtually. I am sure that our parents appreciate our teachers even more, but we also extend our appreciation to our parents who have become teachers as well. Although we cannot be together to express our appreciation, please know that you have our deepest appreciation and gratitude for the things you continue to do for our students. Please continue to take care of yourselves and be safe! Around the District This week we are closing out our Purple Up celebration! We packed this newsletter with podcasts for kids, fun at-home science experiments, as well as Post 911 GI Bill updates for secondary parents to review. We have also kept our emotional wellness resources center stage for those struggling or wanting to simply connect and talk in this season. Our LISD Military Student Transition Consultant is sharing this weekly newsletter to keep families up to date and better equipped with relevant tools during this time we are social distancing. Pay special attention to the video from the Princeton Review for freshmen, sophomore, and juniors who plan to apply to college in the future in light of COVID-19. Excellent tips for our students moving forward!

World War II: A Nation Comes Together Students in 7th grade Texas History will soon embark on a journey that defined our nation at its darkest hour: World War II.
In military service and on the home front, Texans supported the nation when the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor brought the United States into World War II. Almost three-fourths of a million Texans served in the Armed Forces. Texas became a land filled with airfields, Army training bases, Prisoner of War camps, aircraft factories and shipbuilding yards. On the home-front, there were shortages of goods and rationing, but these were little more than inconveniences. More serious were some racial incidents involving African Americans and Mexican Americans, who were victims of segregation and discrimination.
Norman Rockwell, one our pre-eminent illustrators of the day, captured the tone and essences of America's fighting spirit through his Saturday Evening Post Magazine cover illustrations. Elementary Happenings Kindergartners Beam During Their “Friend Friday” Conferences!
