On Purple Up Day, Friday April 12th, our Elementary campus needs your help.

We want to surprise our youngest heroes, by lining our hallways and cheering for them as they go to their first classes.

We will be meeting in the Elementary Eyemax, promptly at 7:40a.m. We are asking that you please not arrive earlier or linger in the hallways.

At 7:45a.m., we will be lining up from the castle (2nd -4th grade hallway) all along the outside sidewalk that leads to the elementary cafeteria.

No visitor badge is necessary, because it is before school begins. Once all of our students pass through, we ask that you please leave promptly using the outside sidewalks.

Please don't forget to keep it a secret from your kids (s).

The Surveys are coming!

We are excited to announce that the spring surveys are right around the corner! Please be on the lookout in your email for your opportunity to share your thoughts. We are currently working to improve in those areas that were identified in the fall survey, and your continual feedback helps us insure that progress is being made. We look forward to your feedback!

April is the designated month to recognize the resilience, resoluteness, and relentlessness of “military brats.” Unfortunately, there are numerous amounts of struggle that military children must learn to cope with. These struggles include deployments, separation and frequent moves. “Purple up” is a term used to spread awareness of the month through a single color. We encourage this color to represent the strength and resiliency of military children. Every military child has a unique set of circumstances, however difficult, we can overcome them. That is the power behind the Month of the Military Child.

In honor of this special month, S2S and JS2S are taking action in recognizing these students. As a parent, you can send your child a message. This is for students at the junior high and high school. These messages can be filled out via the link below. This includes their names, grade, and related information. These messages will be transferred to purple cut-out hearts and given to your children. The link below will need to be filled out by April 9th, messages will be handed to your students on April 12th.

CyberPatriot Mayor’s Cup

Stacey students that competed in CyberPatriot XI this year had the opportunity to attend the 9th Annual San Antonio Mayor’s Cyber Cup on Saturday, March 30th at the Freeman Coliseum Expo Hall. Approximately 900 competitors, coaches and sponsors attended the event. The San Antonio area fielded 317 teams this year (out of 6,387 worldwide), more than any US city.

The morning started off with a college fair, where the students met one-on-one with advisers from computer/cyber departments of local colleges and universities. A formal luncheon followed with Maj Gen Robert Skinner, Commander of the 24th AF & AF Cyber, as the guest speaker. Ron Nirenberg, mayor of San Antonio, spoke on the outstanding support from sponsors as well as the importance of cybersecurity to the SA economy. An awards ceremony followed, where JROTC teams from Holmes, Roosevelt and Alamo Heights were recognized for being Platinum national finalist teams. Chris Cook and Adam Cavazos of the CyberTexas Foundation recognized the teams. Joe Sanchez, director of the CyberTexas Foundation and Brig Gen Bernard Skoch, the national commissioner of CyberPatriot, were the last speakers of the day and also gave closing remarks.

This year’s Stacey teams did better at the competition than any previous year; three of the teams achieved Platinum tier status and the all-girls team reached the Gold tier. Those attending Saturday were (left to right around the table) Jade Born (12th), Conner O’Malley (11th), Cedric Stubbs, Jr (12th), Allison Flores (9th), Abriana Himantog (12th), Jordan Peterson (12th), Sara Kinney (11th), Taylor Grider (11th), Mark Dombrowski (11th), Jack Macfarlane (11th).

CyberPatriot would not be possible without many sponsors, some of whom include: AFA, Air Force STEM, IPSecure, Rackspace, SecureLogix, Accenture, CPS Energy and BoozAllenHamilton.

Theater Bi-District

After advancing in first place at the district UIL competition, the Stacey theater team travelled to Kerrville for their next competition. Their play, The Insanity of Mary Girard, landed them in fourth place as the alternate play. However, two members of the cast won Honorable Mentionable All-Star Cast awards: Mark Dombrowski and Aaliyah Kirton. In addition, one crew member won the technician award: Sara Kinney. Under the leadership of Tanya Prescher and Michael Richard, the cast and crew shined. They plan to perform this play here in the LISD Auditorium on April 25th, 26th, and 27th at 6 p.m.

Mrs. Baltazar’s Journalism class visited the Stacey Library to create Book Spine Poetry. Each student chose a section of books, then used the titles on the book’s spines to make a poem.

Stacey students are welcome to visit the Stacey Library before or after school to create their own Book Spine Poetry. See Ms. Larkins for more information.

For over a decade, Girls Inc. of San Antonio has held the Girls RockIT Into the Future Science Festival. Celebrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), this Science Festival provides girls and their families with the opportunity to meet with local experts, enjoy hands-on experiments, and partake in STEM activities in an encouraging environment. This opportunity provides girls (of all ages) the opportunity to excel in STEM and the chance to pursue their passions.

Last year, Girls Inc., hosted over 35 exhibitors that brought over 80 hands-on, minds-on activities for 2,400 people that enjoy the festival for free.

April is the Month of the Military Child when we celebrate military children for the courage they display under the pressure of the being the child of a service member. The Commissary is celebrating this month with a Child Coloring Contest! . It is open from April 1 – April 30, 2019. Families Talking Together

Families Talking Together (FTT) is a parent-based program focusing on improving parent-child communication and is effective in delaying sexual initiation and preventing risky sexual behavior among middle-school-aged youth (10-14 yrs.). This training will offer tips and group discussions on getting the conversation started, monitoring/supervision, and helping enhance your child’s refusal skills.
