*December 2 - 4 Stacey Theatre Presents She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition 6:00pm LISD Auditorium Admin Alley Updated Mask Guidance and Vaccination Clinic
A letter was sent home to parents via School Messenger on November 15, 2021 informing them of the recent change in the mask mandate. JBSA COVID-19 Guidance Memorandum #61 states that fully vaccinated individuals are no longer required to wear a mask indoors. Fully vaccinated means it has been at least two weeks since you received your last shot of the two doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or two weeks after receiving the single dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. The Pfizer vaccine supply for children 5-11 reached San Antonio November 5, 2021. If a student received their vaccine on that day, they would be eligible for their second dose on November 26, 2021. The student would be considered fully vaccinated two weeks later on December 10, 2021. Therefore, we are asking parents to ensure your eligible students remain masked while indoors at school if they have not been fully vaccinated. On November 2, 2021, the CDC released a statement recommending that children 5-11 receive the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine. “COVID-19 cases in children can result in hospitalizations, deaths, MIS-C (inflammatory syndromes) and long-term complications, such as “long COVID”, in which symptoms can linger for months”. Therefore, we are encouraging parents to get their children vaccinated as soon as possible. To support this effort, Lackland ISD will be hosting a Vaccination Clinic on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 12-6p and Friday, February 10, 2022 from 12-6p. Additional information will be provided by Lackland Elementary. We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity. We want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Please stay safe and continue to protect yourselves and your family. We appreciate you being a part of the Lackland ISD Family. Academic All-State
Congratulations to Lauren Sawvel and Allison Flores. Both students put the “student” in Student-Athlete. Lauren was named 2nd Team Academic All-State and Allison was named Honorable Mention by the THSCA. Both seniors were also named to the CCCAT Academic All-State team. It takes a lot of hard work in the classroom to make these teams. The UIL State Meet
On November 6th Maggie Bartlow and Christian Cunningham traveled to Round Rock to compete in the UIL 2A State Cross Country Meet. Maggie Bartlow ran an amazing race and finished with a time of 12:38.8. This was good enough for 14th overall and being named to the CCCAT All-State team. Christian ran an impressive 19:29.8 in the 5K and finished 110th. Such an amazing accomplishment by both of our freshman runners! Great season!!
Campus Construction is on Track by: Lauren Sawvel, Senior
If you've taken a look at our track lately, you might have noticed the giant trucks, bags of synthetic rubber, or heard the riveting beeps of construction. Being a runner myself, I was surprised to see one morning that the track was closed- for repair! The track was in a pretty bad shape- it definitely needed some holes to be fixed and work to be done on. Even though the XC team was unable to use it most of the season, by the time the construction is completed it will have a large impact on our community here at Stacey and will benefit our performance in Track! Coach Amber Greeness was able to give me the inside scoop of what’s happening with our track!
What is being done to the track and how is it getting improved? The track is being resurfaced and the markings are being repainted.
What are the completion & start dates? They started a month ago. They are expected to finish in the late winter to early Spring (hopefully by the time track practice starts).
How will it benefit the school and students? The whole community uses the track at various times throughout the year. As you may have noticed, the surface of the track had holes in some of the lanes, the track markings were hard to see, and the surface was pulling away from the long jump and triple jump pits. Resurfacing the track will make it "like new" again.
Is this the first time the track has been redone? This track was originally finished in 2005-2006 School Tracks should be resurfaced every 8-10 years.
Were we given a grant or special fund to redo the track? No
Has the athletic department been trying to resurface the track for a while or is this a recent idea? We have been trying to get it resurfaced since 2014.
Thank you Coach Greeness!! We are counting down the days until we can use the track again!
She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition by Qui Nguyen The Stacey Drama Club proudly presents She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition by Qui Nguyen on December 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6 PM in the Lackland ISD auditorium. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door. Admission is free for all Lackland ISD employees. This show is intended for a teenage and older audience and contains a brief sequence with flashing lights. Please contact Mr. Richard with any questions at Richard.m@lacklandisd.net.
“She Kills Monsters tells the story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and ’90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.” – Concord Theatricals
Congratulations to Kyrie Yarbrough! Kyrie was selected to the 30-AA 2nd Team All-District by the coaches. This is a tremendous accomplishment for Kyrie being the starting setter as a freshmen on the varsity team and playing with such a young core of players as well.
Wreaths Across America
Click Here for the Sponsorship Form!
This year Mrs. Duron’s Family and Community Service class is selling wreaths in support of Wreaths Across America. The wreaths will be placed on the graves of veterans here at Fort Sam and throughout the United States on December 18th. This year Wreaths Across America added some new options to remember our heroes. Wreaths can be purchased in honor of a living veteran, spouse, first responder or in remembrance of a veteran who has passed. You can also buy a wreath to be placed on a specific grave. If you don’t know of a person to honor – you can still buy a wreath to be placed on a grave. I am sure it will be appreciated by the families of those who have passed. To access these options, the wreath MUST be purchased online. The link to purchase online is bit.ly/staceyfcclawreaths If you do not wish to buy online, we have a paper form that can be completed and turned into Mrs. Duron with payment (cash or check) or can also be mailed. In order for wreaths to be placed this December, all sales need to be processed in November. We appreciate your support. The money raised will be used to complete service projects throughout the year.
