Have a wonderful holiday!

Admin Alley

Grateful

I am grateful for all of our teachers, support staff, technology staff, administrators, nurses, cafeteria workers, custodians, bus drivers, maintenance workers, and central office staff. Thank you for what you do every day to support our students.  I witness the passion and love you have for our students every day. We are blessed here at Lackland ISD and I am grateful to be a part of this great school system.

I am also grateful for our military families and the men and women of the Armed Services who serve and protect our country each day. Every day, they trust us with the safety and education of their precious children, and we should never take that charge lightly.

I want to wish each of you a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends. Please stay safe and  have a great week off. We hope to see everyone back on Monday, December 2, 2024.

Substitute Teacher Day, also known as Substitute Educators' Day or Substitute Appreciate Day, is a special occasion dedicated to recognizing the vital contributions of substitute teachers. In 2024, this day will be celebrated on November 22nd.

Substitute teachers play an essential role in maintaining the continuity of education, stepping in with flexibility and dedication whenever regular teachers are absent. Their ability to adapt to different classroom environments and effectively manage diverse groups of students ensures that learning never stops.

On Substitute Teacher Appreciation Day, schools and communities come together to express their appreciation for these unsung heroes. Celebrations can include thoughtful gestures such as thank-you notes, small gifts, and public acknowledgments. It’s a perfect opportunity for students, parents, and fellow educators to recognize the hard work and commitment of substitute teachers who make a significant impact on our educational system.

Don’t miss the chance to show your gratitude to substitute teachers on November 22nd, 2024, and celebrate their invaluable contributions to our children’s education.

NATIONAL EDUCATION SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS DAY

Annually observed on the Wednesday during American Education Week, National Education Support Professionals Day honors the contributions of school support employees. These support professionals provide invaluable services and are essential partners in a child's education.

The day honors a long list of professionals who keep schools running smoothly. They include all secretaries, classroom aides, cafeteria workers, maintenance workers, bus drivers, and the others who support educators, school leadership, and the students, too. These professionals do their part in making public schools exceptional for every child so they can be safe, learn, grow and achieve.

Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.

ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:

*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app

*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events

*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items

*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents

For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app.  The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store.  If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well.  ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal.  Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.

Parent Square Notifications

Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.

Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.

Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.

Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.

The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message.

Aiming for Success! Audrey Upton

By: Desiree Hernandez, junior

Meet Audrey Upton! She's a sophomore at Stacey and a competitive archer based in San Antonio. Audrey isn't just focused on her sport, she also serves as the sophomore class president and is actively involved in several extracurriculars, including S2S, CyberPatriot, and JROTC, among others. Originally from Arizona, she’s also lived in the UK, making this her 7th school. Audrey has two older brothers, Caleb and Kyle, and her diverse experiences have helped shape her into a well-rounded leader and student.

How long have you been at Stacey?

I’ve been at Stacey since 8th grade.

How long have you been doing archery, and how did you get into it?

I’ve been shooting archery on and off since I was little. But I started taking it seriously about a year and a half ago after I had knee surgery. I wasn’t able to do any of my usual high-energy sports, so I started focusing more on archery, and it has become pretty much my whole life.

How do you stay focused during a competition?

It’s definitely hard to stay focused during a competition. I just keep running my shot process over and over in my head, trying to block everything else out. During practice, I’ll listen to music to help me stay relaxed and focused.

What archery events have you participated in?

I’ve competed in a lot of 3D and target leagues. Right now, I’m competing in Shoot Your Way Across Texas (SYWAT), which is where we travel all around Texas to compete. I usually compete in two events every weekend—one in San Antonio and one somewhere else out of town, like Austin, Killeen, Dallas.

How does the scoring system work in archery, and how is a winner determined?

The scoring depends on the type of competition you’re in. For target competitions, you shoot at a ringed target, and your score depends on where your arrow lands. In SYWAT, you do 12 rounds of 5 shots each. The highest score you can get per 4 rounds is 100, but the goal is to score as many "Xs" as possible, since they’re worth more than regular points. The highest possible score overall is 300, and Xs are used as tie-breakers.

What is your advice for making the perfect shot?

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve gotten is from my coach: “You can’t take back that arrow; you can only fix the next one. Take your time and breathe.” But also, just trust yourself and try not to overthink it.

Have you ever completely missed the target?

Yes, I have! Multiple times, actually! It’s pretty embarrassing. The first time was at my first league competition, and I was super nervous. I accidentally shot at the wrong target! But it was a learning experience, and it definitely helped me get better and learn to stay focused.

What are your goals for your archery career in the future?

My goal right now is to shoot a perfect 300 in a competition. But long-term, I want to compete in the World Archery Championships and represent the USA. Since compound archery isn’t in the Olympics, the World Championships are the highest level of competition we can aim for.

Are there any other hobbies you enjoy?

Yeah! I love playing golf and photography. I try to stay busy, and those are definitely my top two hobbies outside of archery.

Do you see archery being your complete future?

Not exactly. I’ll definitely keep doing archery as long as I can. I plan to do it in college and even after that but my career goals right now are to study political science and join the United States Marines or Air Force and work in counterintelligence, or maybe work in public affairs as a combat photographer.
