All of the district’s business, HR, technology and operations mid-management leaders have completed this workshop. The workshop is based on a book co-authored by Kevin Eikenberry and Guy Harris titled, From Bud to Boss: Secrets to a Successful Transition to Remarkable Leadership. The 2-day training explored topics such as: · Succeeding in the Transition to Leadership · Working with Change · Becoming a Great Communicator · Coaching and Feedback · Collaborating with Others · Commitment to Success (Goal Setting) One of the many engagement activities included a team-building activity illustrated below: [Left to right] Rebecca Macal, Transportation Supervisor, Thomas Estrada, Custodial Supervisor, and Steve Ramos, Lead Custodian
Throughout the workshop the participants were provided with opportunities to share leadership challenges and to learn practical steps to face the challenges with confidence. The workshop was facilitated by a Certified Bud to Boss Trainer (and Chief Financial Officer for Lackland ISD), Rebecca Estrada. Around the District Today, the Technology Department celebrated reaching our 10,000th incident in our online support system. The system went live on August 18, 2016, so we reached that number in about three and a half years. That 10,000th incident therefore represents a significant milestone for our department, and it shows the immense amount of work that the department has accomplished for the people in our district who have come to rely upon them for superior technical support.
Students in Mr. Keller’s class worked on designing a banner for the event, and Stacey sophomore Naomi Sater won that contest. She is pictured here beside her winning banner, which was hung at a celebration luncheon this Thursday. Many thanks to Naomi for her hard work on the winning design!
HR Coordinator and Administrative Assistant to Superintendent Yolanda Jackson and Elementary Principal Teresa Leija were also honored at the event . . . They were the two individuals who had submitted the greatest number of incidents during that time period.
We are super-proud of our Technology Department for the tremendous amount of work they do. Our operational team works to keep our servers, switches, and computers going, and our instructional team works hard to help us figure out how to leverage technology in our instruction. Thanks to the entire team for all their hard work!

Stacey Happenings Three Stacey students named finalists for local financial literacy competition
Last week, a team of three Stacey Junior/Senior High School students was named one of six finalists for the 12th Annual Jr. Duel In Ol' San Antonio Financial Literacy Competition, sponsored by the San Antonio CPA Society/CE Foundation and Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU). Bella Evans, Jacob Gamboa and Sara Kinney (pictured from L-R) will present their case study solution in front of a panel of five judges from the business community and compete for the top prize next Saturday, Feb. 29, at RBFCU's corporate headquarters in Live Oak.
The Jr. Duel In Ol' San Antonio is designed to stimulate, teach, reinforce and provide long-term knowledge and the use of practical personal financial skills for local high school students. It involves leading students through personal finance topics, culminating with a case study that each team is to solve before presenting to members of the local business community if selected as a finalist.
Let’s celebrate and congratulate Lauren Sawvel, sophomore at Stacey High School. Lauren was recently awarded a scholarship for a 4-week Summer Program at the University Southern California. This scholarship is targeted toward highly-motivated high school students of active families in the military. The USC Summer Programs students preview “freshman year” at one of the world’s leading private research universities, studying in the same classrooms and laboratories, residing in the same residence halls, and dining in the same facilities as USC undergraduates. The Summer Programs Office will cover the entire tuition and fees, airfare, room and board, and course materials for Lauren to attend the 4-week college credit program. Lauren received one of the thirty full ride scholarships reserved for military students. The entire program will involve 600 selected students from 20 countries. The College Career Military Readiness team is thrilled that Lauren is getting this opportunity. We look forward to having more students awarded with similar scholarships and CCMR experiences in the future. We will continue to partner with Mrs. Baltazar and secondary counselors as unique programs become available. For ongoing scholarship opportunities, connect with Mrs. Guyton or Mrs. Antoine in Room 4808.
Valentine s2s and js2s Socials
Last Thursday, S2S hosted a Valentine’s Day themed lunch bunch for new high school students and an after school social for new junior high students. To kick off the events, a question ball was tossed around and when caught, the students would say their name and answer the question their right thumb touched. After everyone got to know each other, they started to play Valentine Minute to Win It games such as word scrambles and moving conversational hearts with chop sticks. After games, S2S served sherbet punch and cupcakes the guests decorated. Lunch Bunches and after school socials help new students make new friends and get comfortable in their new school.
Dungeons and Dragons is an exciting game filled with mythical adventures and fantasy. It is a game that invites all types of people, and brings them together for a game of thrills. This is a game that everyone can share and be part of, no matter if your 11 or 17! This is a game that will bring together a variety of people and unite them with a similar cause: to have fun and play D&D!
This fantastic club was organized and launched by Senior, Sophie Davis. It is open to all students Junior high through High-school. S2S sponsored the first meeting and further meetings will be held at the teen and youth centers. Anyone who has completed the required paperwork for the center can participate. D and D / Pathfinder events are held every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, after school at the teen/youth center. If you are interested, speak with Mrs. Duron or an S2S member who can let you in on this amazing opportunity. Now for the true question, can you beat the dungeon master?
Introducing: Ms. Tanya Prescher by: Catie Traxler, freshman Ms. Prescher is the Junior High theatre teacher and is the technical director for the Drama Club here at Stacey JR/SR High School. She has worked here for 10 years and, since she has been here, she described “a huge advance in the technology game” at Stacey. Her favorite part of working at this school is the close-knit family type of environment that Stacey provides. She says, “People take care of each other.” Ms. Prescher describes the hardest part of her job to be putting a lot of time and effort into reaching students and not succeeding. Running the technical side of things for the drama department has also been an important aspect of her life. Her favorite play that she has put on since she has been here was Eurydice because it was her first play here, and her eldest daughter starred in it. In her free time, Ms. Prescher enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. She says that if she could travel anywhere in the world, she would go to Bora Bora. Something you may not know about Ms. Prescher is that she is a huge advocate for every student’s mental health, and she used to be an avid dancer. Ms. Prescher is only one of the wonderful faces of teachers and staff here with interesting stories and amazing personalities. If you are ever attending a family night, or happen to be on the Stacey JR/SR High School campus, be sure to stop by and meet the gem that is Ms. Prescher.

A Few Minutes with Mrs. Guyton by: Kelsey Traxler, junior Dayna Guyton is the Lackland ISD AVID District Coordinator and the DoDEA Grants Director.
How long have you been with Lackland ISD? I started working for the district in Oct. 2017 What made you decide to pursue an educational career? I have an unyielding desire to effect change by showing others how to tap into their own limitless possibilities. How did you first get involved with the Military schools? Prior to working for LISD I worked for the Air Force at the Military Family Readiness Center. I helped service members and their dependents find employment after separating or retiring. I wanted to support kids’ navigation of pursuing careers after seeing how difficult it was for the adults, so when the opportunity opened for me at LISD I took it! I also happen to be a military spouse and mom, so I have seen first hand some the hurdles and wanted to be a part of the solution. Where did you spend your childhood? I was born and lived in Tucson, AZ until I was about 7. Then I moved with my mom here to San Antonio where I lived until I graduated from high school. What is your favorite part of Stacey? The students! There is such an incredible opportunity to get to know each and every one of you. I’m only sorry that I haven’t taken more time to do so. What is your favorite thing about living in Texas? The fact that my family lives here. I really loved living in Virginia. Do you have any pets? If not, what would your ideal pet be? I don’t have any pets now. If I did it would be a dog…a big dog! What is your favorite color and why? My favorite color is white. It’s such a brilliant color and it goes well with anything. More importantly white remains significant even in the background while still allowing other colors to standout. What is your favorite school subject and why? Math, because it came easy and it just seemed so simple. English, because of its interesting nuances. I feel privileged to understand them both so well. What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Carrot Cake, they sell it at Smallcakes Cupcakery Thank you Mrs. Guyton!!
