The high school community service class is promoting Christmas cheer this year by supporting Operation Christmas Child! Students in Mrs. Duron’s class have organized and promoted the operation through posters found along campus.
Operation Christmas Child helps children across the world who may not be able to get gifts. Shoeboxes filled with toys and gifts make their way across the world to reach the children, and the community service class is asking that you help bring gifts and Christmas cheer to those children. It’s easy to give to a child through the operation. All someone needs to do is find a shoebox, fill it with toys for a child, and bring the box to Mrs. Duron’s room by November 16th. There is also the option to create and send a box online.
Boxes can be filled for girls or boys in varying age groups: 2-4, 5-9,or 10-14. Making the box in person allows someone to pick out each toy with their own hands. All boxes should have a label that identifies what age group and gender the box is meant for. Boxes need to be turned in by Wednesday, Nov 16, 2022 Another option is to purchase a box online. This allows you to fill a box from the comfort of your own home. The link to purchase a online box is:

Informational posters can be found in different buildings on the Lackland ISD campus, or you can email Mrs. Duron at duron.e@lacklandisd.net for more information.

Stacey Flashback: Joseph Bush Joseph attended Stacey from 2013-2015 and was the class salutatorian of the 2015 senior class. Current 9th grader Cadence Bramlett of the yearbook staff tracked him down at BYU in Provo, Utah, where he is working on his Master’s degree.

"I attended Stacey Jr./Sr. High School for the 2013-2015 school years. I went to 11th and 12th grade there. My favorite thing about that school were the teachers; my favorite teachers were those that made class fun and that cared about students. I also enjoyed different extracurricular activities. I had a good experience there, so there isn’t much if anything that I really disliked about that school. My favorite class was probably AP Calculus AB taught by Mr. Fernandez. He was a fun teacher. I don’t know that I have any exceptionally interesting stories from that school. However, while I was part of some club or group, we each got to buy a little kid a gift. Then we all went to the place where they were at and got to give them our gifts. It was a good experience to think about someone else and try to bring them some joy.
My junior year I didn’t do any sports and wasn’t really in any clubs, although that school year I did help with the yearbook and went to UIL. During my senior year I ran cross country, participated in theatre, went to UIL (again) and was part of FCCLA. At least in the last several years, I haven’t really kept in touch with any of my classmates. While at that school, I should have reached out more to those who were by themselves or looking like they needed a friend. I remember towards the start of my junior year of high school, I was new there and didn’t really have any friends there yet. During lunch time one day, I sat next to someone who was by himself and talked to him. Doing that made me feel less alone. I hope he felt the same way. I’m sure there were others though, that I could have reached out to and tried to help them feel less alone. I remember one individual reached out to me and included me in her friend group. I really appreciated that.
I am now at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. I got my bachelor’s degree in Physiology and Developmental Biology and currently I am in the Cell Biology and Physiology Master’s program here at BYU. If I could offer some advice, it’d be to work hard, work smart, think of others, and be a good friend to others.”
Thank you, Joseph! |

The Texas Longhorn derives from cattle brought to the Americas by Spanish conquistadores from the time of the Second Voyage of Christopher Columbus until about 1512.
The first cattle were landed in 1493 on the Caribbean island of La Isla Española (now known as Hispaniola) to provide food for the colonists.
Over the next two centuries, the Spaniards used the cattle in Mexico and gradually moved them north to accompany their expanding settlements. The Spaniards reached the area that became known as "Texas" near the end of the 17th century. Eventually, some cattle escaped or were turned loose on the open range, where they remained mostly feral for the next two centuries. Over several generations, descendants of these cattle developed to have high feed- and drought-stress tolerances and other "hardy" characteristics that have given Longhorns their reputation as livestock.
Early Anglo-American settlers in East Texas, then a part of Mexico, obtained feral Mexican cattle from the borderland between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande. They bred them with their own eastern cattle. The result was a tough, rangy animal that was characterized by its lengthy legs and exceptionally long horns that extended up to 7 feet. Pam Torre
