Lackland ISD Shares Appreciation for Teachers and Staff
During National Teacher Day on May 7th and throughout National Teacher Appreciation Week from May 6-10, 2024, Lackland ISD showed heartfelt appreciation for its teachers and staff. The district embraced the National Education Association's (NEA) theme of unity in listening to and supporting teachers while advocating for the resources and respect they deserve as educators. Teachers were treated to thoughtful gifts, special appreciation lunch offerings, and enjoyed a traditional cookout featuring Dr. Roper’s famous peach cobbler as the favored dessert.

. Mrs Duron asked us if her students could do a cooking activity with kiddos in Mrs Thompson's class. She gave them about 100 visual recipes, and they picked 2. They met with her ahead of time. She talked to the class about effective ways to work with the kiddos. Our students had a blast this morning working with the high schoolers on a kitchen/cooking activity. They were beaming! The high schoolers were AMAZING with them. Very impressive.!

Student Success!
Congratulations to Tristyn Myrick. Her film ‘Dunkin’ was one of two student films that was selected to be featured at the Festival de Cine Latino Americano in Corpus Christi. The Stacey 10th grader is part of the SaySi youth creative development organization in San Antonio. Her film was a ten-month project about a young boy named Julius, who idolizes and wants to be like Tim Duncan. Tristyn was also recently named ‘Miss Texas Amazing Teen’. She is involved in JROTC, Girl Scouts and NHS and she represents Stacey on the Golf, UIL, Robotics and CyberPatriot teams. Wow >> great job Tristyn!

Congratulations on Retirement! Ms. Nicole James by: Breana Burkham, 9th grade |

Ms. James is a beloved teacher who has been in education for 29 years, the last 25 of which were spent at Stacey. During her time at Stacey, she served as an 8th grade English Language Arts teacher, worked on the Site-Based Committee (both campus and District), headed the English as a Second Language (ESL) Department for six years, coached UIL Junior High Literary Events and served as the UIL Coordinator, sponsored the Spirit Squad, and chaperoned countless school activities and field trips.
What will you miss the most about Stacey?
I really will miss the students and the bonds created with them and their families. Over the years, I have taught entire families of students and it has been wonderful to be able to follow their progress from middle school to high school and beyond. I have been invited to former students’ bridal showers, weddings, and birthday parties and now have former students as colleagues. I’ll also miss the “Friday FLEX Chats” with my students. Several of them always wanted to keep me apprised as to how they were doing emotionally and/or academically, wanted advice, or just a place to decompress. Knowing that I was someone they felt comfortable talking to was heartwarming. What is your favorite memory about Stacey?
I have so many, but one that sticks out is the Faculty/Student Basketball Game that used to be played annually. I was fouled while attempting to make a layup. At the free throw line, I made the first basket and the entire crowd went crazy, erupting with shrieks, shouts, and chants of “Go, Miss James!” Mind you, I am not athletically inclined, but I was thrilled that I made that shot. My students would have never let me live it down if I had missed it 😊.

How have you changed since your first year of teaching? While I have always been structured and organized, over the years I have learned to “go with the flow” and accept that there will always be something that can disrupt the learning environment; flexibility is key. Would you like to leave some words of wisdom? Always remember that the present is a gift—make the most of every day. Thank you Ms. James!

4th and 5th graders have been working hard on a mask series in elementary art. Hello, GT Families!
As we enter the last stretch of the 2023-2024 school year, we're excited for the flurry of "final events" that typically mark this time, from classroom celebrations to award ceremonies, performances, and, of course, graduations. We encourage you to savor these moments and embrace the adventures of summer ahead, while also finding moments to unwind and recharge.
Each child possesses unique strengths, whether in math, language arts, the sciences, music, arts, leadership, athletics, philanthropy, or any other field. Our task is to support them in discovering and nurturing these talents by encouraging exploration of their interests and abilities.
As you embark on your summer break, we encourage you to create opportunities for your students to engage in activities that spark their curiosity and passion. We'll reconnect with you in September through our Back-To-School newsletter! |
