Go Bots in Blue!!
Stacey High School students Amy Kreil, Perry Weller, Tristan Anderson, and Sandra Williams competed in the UIL State Robotics Championship in Frisco, TX December 2nd-4th.
The students were given two sheets of plywood, some PVC, string, and a bicycle innertube. In 6 weeks they designed, built, and programmed a robot to complete a dozen specific tasks within 3 minutes.
Rebecca Huerta and Ken Kinsey traveled with the students as they made a 30 minute marketing presentation as well as another 30 minute exhibit presentation to professional robotic engineers who judged them in their presentation skills, engineering knowledge and robot design decisions. The team also participated in 8 matches of game play against 74 other teams from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. They finished the UIL competition in the top 10 in the 1A-4A school category and in 2nd place among the 2A schools in that category. Special recognition goes to Caden Miner who designed the yellow game t-shirt that garnered 2nd place overall.
They made a lot of memories while they made a robot. |

Updated Mask Guidance and Vaccination Clinic
A letter was sent home to parents via School Messenger on November 15, 2021 informing them of the recent change in the mask mandate. JBSA COVID-19 Guidance Memorandum #61 states that fully vaccinated individuals are no longer required to wear a mask indoors. Fully vaccinated means it has been at least two weeks since you received your last shot of the two doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or two weeks after receiving the single dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. The Pfizer vaccine supply for children 5-11 reached San Antonio November 5, 2021. If a student received their vaccine on that day, they would be eligible for their second dose on November 26, 2021. The student would be considered fully vaccinated two weeks later on December 10, 2021. Therefore, we are asking parents to ensure your eligible students remain masked while indoors at school if they have not been fully vaccinated.
On November 2, 2021, the CDC released a statement recommending that children 5-11 receive the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine. “COVID-19 cases in children can result in hospitalizations, deaths, MIS-C (inflammatory syndromes) and long-term complications, such as “long COVID”, in which symptoms can linger for months”. Therefore, we are encouraging parents to get their children vaccinated as soon as possible. To support this effort, Lackland ISD will be hosting a Vaccination Clinic on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 12-6p and Friday, February 10, 2022 from 12-6p. Additional information will be provided by Lackland Elementary. We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity.
We want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Please stay safe and continue to protect yourselves and your family. We appreciate you being a part of the Lackland ISD Family. |

She Kills Monsters: A Review By: Helena Sawvel, senior |

Out of all of the plays that I have seen during my time at Stacey, I would definitely say that this one was one of my favorites, and one of the most entertaining. Directed by our very own Mr. Richard, the play follows the story of a girl named Agnes during the mid-1990s. Being part of the popular crowd, Agnes only cares about shopping, boys, and cheerleading. As your typical, older sibling, she also thinks that her younger sister Tilly is annoying and geeky, and doesn’t want anything to do with her. However, after Tilly dies when hit by a car, Agnes realizes what she has lost, and sets off on a journey to truly discover who her sister really was, and at the same time, gets to know her better by playing Tilly’s favorite game and pastime, Dungeons and Dragons. While playing the game, Agnes meets many different characters, and is able to understand more about herself,
her sister, and her friends, and is introduced to a new enlightenment of thought.
The acting throughout the play was phenomenal, and I was in awe much of the performance, accompanied with a vast onset of emotions brought upon by the actors. Maggie King did an amazing job in bringing Agnes’s character to life, as well did Grace O’Brien (one of the editors from the yearbook staff), and the rest of the actors in the performance. It was certainly worth the time, as the Stacey Drama Club never fails to impress. I commend each and every person involved in and with She Kills Monsters, and I can’t wait to see what the Stacey Drama Club has in store next. Congratulations everyone!

Say Hello to Mrs. Strahan
by: Kyrie Yarbrough, Freshman |
|
|
Sarah Strahan teaches Geometry, Geometry Honors, Algebraic Reasoning, College Prep and Math Lab. She is also the sponsor of the Stacey freshman class.
How many years have you been teaching? 5 years Why did you decide to become a teacher?
In school I really loved helping my classmates by tutoring them. It was important to me to have a job that I felt I was helping others and teaching is helping a lot. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?
I have an Australian shepherd dog and her name is Honey. What advice would you give to your students? Working here, I believe the most needed advice for military children, is to value the importance of relationships. How long have you lived in Texas? All my life. Do you find it easier to teach in an 8 period day or do you prefer the 4 period day? Why do you like it better? I do prefer a 4 period day, it's easier for me to manage my workload and to teach the curriculum with 4 periods per day. What's your favorite food? Dessert?
My favorite food is this Mexican dish called Gorditas. Favorite dessert ice cream! What’s the hardest thing about teaching? Feeling as if what you are doing is enough, and always feeling as if you could do more. What is your favorite animal? Dogs! Thank you Mrs. Strahan! |

Squirrels are generally small animals, ranging in size from the African pygmy squirrel at 3.9-5.5 inches in total length and and just 0.42-0.92 ounces in weight. Squirrels typically have slender bodies with very long bushy tails and large eyes. In general, their fur is soft and silky, though much thicker in some species than others. The coat of a squirrels is highly differentiated between and within the species.
Squirrels live in almost every habitat, from tropical rainforests to semiarid deserts, avoiding only the high polar regions and the driest of deserts. They are mainly herbivorous, meaning that they subsist on seeds and nuts, but they will eat insects and even very small animals. As their eyes indicate, squirrels have excellent vision, which is especially important for the tree-dwelling species. Many also have a very good sense of touch!!!
We are fortunate, here at Lackland ISD, to see squirrels out and about and mingling with us as we eat lunch outdoors or even walk outside from one class to another.
Occasionally, we may hear squirrels "chirring" back and forth with their squirrel buddies. Squirrels are wild animals and it is best to observe them from a distance and give them their "squirrel personal space." Pam Torre
